I booked a last minute trip to St John for next week, staying at the Westin for five days. There are no rental cars available that week this close to departure. what are my best options for seeing parts ot the island? Im guessing taxis, and maybe mountain biking excursions. were pretty young and active. Which beaches would you go to and how much do you think taxis might cost? thanks a million!

taxis are everywhere but you might think about renting a scooter. you can rent them several places right near ferry dock. those are your only 2 choices. all the beaches are great, just depends whether you like shallow, snorkeling or what. if you go to trunk bay ask someone what day the cruise ships are coming and avoid it that day or get there early. all the shopowners know when the ships are coming.

Try renting a car at the airport in STT and ferry it over. www.budget.com and use the aiport code of "STT".

Thanks for the suggestions. Are there certain ferries which can accomodate a car? I'm guessing that the Westin ferry does not. Thanks for your help! Last minute travel is fun but a bit stressful!

If you drive to Red Hook (East End), there are ferries to varying places. There are also car ferries to STJ. $35 r/t (I believe), including passengers. PUll in and ask the lady in the booth where you shouldgo and she willtell you. Stay left!

The Westin ferry does not accommodate cars (or at least it didn't when we were there a few years ago). But it's a short and easy drive from where the ferry lands, so I'd rent a car on STT and take the ferry. Plus, taxis are very easy and not too expensive.
