Search the board- there are plenty of reports about Sapphire Beach.

sapphire beach itself is very nice I think. Very colorful water and lots of sand. As far as the resort I would be careful who you rent from. I can suggest a condo in the complex that I have stayed in before and is very nice but only suitable for 2 people. As far as the area it's pretty close to red hook where there's tons of restaurants and the ferry to st. john is there also.

I am at Sapphire as I am writing this. Usually I have to go down to the lobby to gain access the wireless network, but right now I am sitting on my balcony typing.

ALL the units at Sapphire are privately owned. Some are maintained better than others. If you rent privately you need to be sure that you know what you are getting. If you rent through the rental agent , Antilles, you have the option of requesting another unit if you are not satisfied with the one you are in.

Sapphire is on the prettiest beach in STT and I know it is blasphemy, but maybe the prettiest beach in the Caribbean.

Unfortunately, the overall condition of the resort is not as good as it used to be, but many of the units have been done over and/or are in pretty good shape. I just wrote out a check a few minutes ago to have the sliding screen doors on my unit repaired and refinished.

The restaurants and bars are closed, but there is a grill cooking burgers etc for lunch. If you rent through Antilles you also get a free Continental breakfast as well as beach chairs, towels, and water sports equipment such as mask, snorkels, wind surfers, and so on. If you rent privately those are all extras.

I guess the best way to put it is what a woman on the beach said to me yesterday, it isn't the Ritz, but I love it.

I used to love Sapphire Beach. The beach is the most beautiful on St. Thomas. The resort however is terrible. Bad service. Bad restauraunts (when they were open)... If you are staying there eat in Red Hook. Plenty of nice places to eat there.

How many days are you staying on St. Thomas?

We stayed at Sapphire last June.

The beach is incredible. In general the grounds are kept pretty well. The condo we rented was not what I expected, but it was confortable.

Like other have said, you better make sure that where you stay is kept up.

The pros were we loved being close to Red Hook and the ferry. Very conveninet. We also loved that we were right there at Sapphire and the snorkeling was excellent. We went into the pool almost every night which was only steps away from where we were staying.

Our condo needed some updating.. The comforter was horrible. Had holes in it and in my opinion, should of been replaced years ago. Come on, how cheap can you buy a new comforter for a queen bed? It just felt like the place was a little dirty. You gals know what I mean.

Would I rent the same place again? No....Would I rent a nicer place at Sapphire if i got recommendations??? Absolutely,

If you want to pm me privately so I can see if it's the same condo..go right ahead.

Ok, you know I had to pipe up on the Sapphire plug. I too love Sapphire and unless I was going to stay on St John, I would stay no where else. I love the price, the beach and I can also recommend some very well kept condos there. I am going to be there in May and I can't wait. Leticia

Leticia...you're right. If you have the right condo to stay in that is kept up and clean, then I'd say go for it.

It's just so convenient to stay at Sapphire. And the snorkeling is great.

Going in May to for our first Villa rental...I can't wait either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Connie, what are your exact dates? I think you are there a few days after we are. What size villa did you get and who did you rent it from? You will neeed a car for transportation yes? We (my family and two other families are thinking about giong back next June after the kids and I get out for the semester. I would be interested in a villa too for that trip.

Leticia...May 12-May 19th. We rented Wyndcliff Villa in Mahogany Bay. 6 Bedrooms, 5 Baths. We rented 2 jeeps. One for the 20 year olds and one for the parents which I'm hoping to upgrade to a Liberty. Even if we didn't need the cars, I still would have rented them. Love driving around and investigating different places. The Villa was 4500.00 for the week, but WAY worth it considering there are 9 of us.

I heard that the legal issues for the resort owners as well as the condo owners are mounting faster than the piles of trash at St. Thomas' landfill. What's the story?

You are absolutely correct. The legal fees will soon total over a million dollars if they haven't already.
I believe in STT the loser of the legal action has to pay the legal fees as well as any damages. I don't think very many peop[le really know what is going on, but it is a mess and is getting worse.

I just happened to go on tripadvisor.com and the funny thing is that Sapphire Beach is rated #3 in STT.

It's such a shame because it's an amazing piece of property there and so convenient to Red Hook and the Ferry to St. John.

I stayed last year at Lucy's Jewel at Sapphire Village. It is a studio and suited our needs very well. It was very nice and I am returning in less then 2 weeks and staying there again.
