Does anyone have any input on renting a car for the day on Tortola or VG? Is it worth the money or just get by with taxis? There will be four of us and my kids want to swim with the dolphins on Tortola. Do you know if they offer this even in July? I personally want to see the sights but I know the kids will be very excited to do the dolphin swim.
As for VG, I want to go to the Baths and if I am not mistaken, the ferry drop off will not be far?? Is there anything else on VG besides the Baths to see or do?

Thanks

Are you planning on doing this on the same day or are you talking about two seperate trips--one to Tortola and one to VG?

If you are based in the USVI and are planning on visiting both islands and swimming with dolphins/going to the baths and renting cars on both islands in one day...the short and long answer is NO.

I'm not sure if the swim with the dolphin deal is running in the summer or not.

Asking if there is "anything else on Virgin Gorda" than the Baths is like asking if there is anything else on St. John than Cruz BAy or the Reef BAy Trail hike. It has spectacular beaches, most much less populated than those on St. John. great hiking trails, amazing vista of the US and BVIs from Gorda Peak. An incredible area surrounded by several islands making a several square mile area of protected waters called "North Sound"--it is home to several resorts, bars restaurants, beaches, ferry's to different destinations around the Sound, water sports of all kinds from large powerboat and dingy rentals, windsurfing, small sail boat rentals and lessons. It's a beautiful island with great people, which is why we bought a condo there after many years of vacationing on St. John.. You won't have time to do it all in a daytrip unless you are overnighting in VG or Tortola. Enjoy.

If you stay on Tortola, I'd recommend a trip to Smuggler's Cove, a gorgeous beach, or Cane Garden Bay if you want a beach with shopping, bars and restaurants--gets crowded on cruise ship days but should not be a problem in July. A trip up to Skyworld --for a great vista of the surrounding Islands. Kids and grownups will enjoy a stop at La Dolce Vita Gelato shop--it is GREAT!! If you are coming by way of West End Ferry Dock you can have a nice lunch or great pizza at the Jolly
Roger on the water front of Sopers Hole while waiting for the ferry back.

Like St. John taxi fares in the BVI are per person making a rental car usually less expensive. but you might work a decent rate if you plan your day and discuss it with a driver and he will arrange to take you where you want to go--pick you up and take you to the next spot etc.
