Should we still rent a car if we are only coming to STT for a short trip? We only have a four day trip so we plan mostly on relaxing all day at the beach, then a few nights out maybe for a nice dinner. Definitley planning on visiting St. John and spending a day at the beach there if possible but first trip not planning on sight seeing too much will defintely do that on our next trip of course if we like STT. My husband is a huge Aruba fan and has been going there since he was a teen it took alot for me to get him to try another island which I have always wanted to see.

Magga:

It's difficult to give you an answer....where are you staying? Are you here for 3 nights (4 days) or 4 nights (5 days)?

Here's a guess.....

If you're staying on the East End of STT you'll pay about $15.00 each, each way from the airport ($60. round trip plus tips) for a taxi.

Going out to eat (assuming your resort has a restaurant).....anywhere from $5. to 10. each, each way.......2 nights dining out.......$20. - $40. plus tips.

Going to 2 different beaches (aside from your own beach, assuming that you're staying at a beach front resort)......$10. to $15. each, each way, each day.......$40. - $60, plus tips.

Shopping, other.......?????

Of course, if you're staying at a resort served by the safari bus route then the costs would be much less for dining out.

Hope this helps.

F.I.

We are staying at the Marriott Villa's, not sure where it is I know it is beach front but don't know what end of STT. We arrive on a Sunday from Charlott NC and leave STT Thursday late afternoon.

Marriott Villas? That name is not familiar. Could it be the Ritz "fractional ownership" or Frenchman's Cove timeshare? The other Marriott properties are Frenchman's Reef and Morning Star Beach- both more traditional hotels.

If it is the Reef- you can take a water taxi into town during the daytime, concierge can help you with St John trip, etc. Taxis from the Reef to anywhere for dinner will probably run you around 16-20 dollars *each* round trip.

That's the new villa's over looking Frenchman's Cove (Frenchman's Reef).
You'll need a car or taxi to go anywhere! not on a safari route that I know of!

It is the Marriott Frenchmans Cove. Are they right next to the Marriott Hotels? And is it a nice area of ST. Thomas?

Yes, Frenchman's Cove is next door to the Reef and Morningstar. You will have a nice view of the harbor and the cruise ships as they come in, nice sunsets. The area around it is residential, nothing within walking distance. St Thomas is a lot quieter than Aruba, IMHO.
