I was wondering if anyone has ever seen Spirit Airlines have a "summer" sale on flights to St. Thomas. I have reservations in St. John from June 3-10, but I haven't purchased plane tickets yet from Ft. Lauderdale.

Most of the recent sales are for flights up until the end of May...none in June. Has anyone ever seen a Spirit sale for flights in June? I haven't seen any for this June, but has it ever happened in past years?

I'm trying to decide if I should just buy now ($800 R/T for two) or wait and see.

Thanks!

Are you going r/t from Ft Lauderdale to STT?

IMO, Spirit is overrated unless you are going from a non-stop hub and can travel on their dates. I just cancelled my email subscription today. I've found other airline deals to be much better. It all depends on where you are departing from.

From Florida, $800 r/t for two sounds a bit steep. What about American?

Yes, I am flying r/t from Ft. Lauderdale to St. Thomas. It is a non-stop flight.

I have checked all other airlines and they're all pretty much the same right now. Around $800 for two people ($400 each) seems to be the norm. I had noticed all of the Spirit sales over the past few months and was wondering if anyone thinks there will be a sale for June flights.

Sloanrobe:

We've flown Spirit 3 times from Atlantic City, New Jersey (through Fort Lauderdale) to St. Thomas in the last year. Each time we were fortunate to get a sale. The most we paid for a flight was $89. (plus taxes) each way. We like Spirit because it's convenient for us in NJ and cheap. Plus they have all new equipment (Airbus 319's). Our flights have always been on-time (or early).

As for a summer sale.........you'll need to wait for that. If you're flexible you can save a lot of $$.

Thanks for the information!

In which months did you fly down there?

F.I, $89 each way is a great deal. Were you able to get tha tdeal because you were willing to stay for an extended period (several weeks), or did you return after 1 wk to 10 days? I have found that the Spirit deals work if you can flex around their schedules - but the required stays are often more lengthy than the average traveler can manage.

Hope to see a good fare come out from Spirit this Spring!

Sloanrobe & Blu:

We traveled in March (2006), September (2006) - both for a week (Saturday to Saturday) and January 7, 2007 (Sunday) to February 3, 2007 (Saturday - because I wanted to be home for our annual Super bowl Party). We pretty much picked the days that we wanted to travel.

The March trip was $89. + $30. taxes each way or $238.00 round trip total for each person.
The September trip was a "Buy One Get One Free trip. It cost us $286. round trip each (plus $60. tax). After traveling we each received a voucher for $286. to spend on any trip....we chose St. Thomas. That worked out to $71.50 each way (plus $30. tax) for 2 round trips. Note: Our trips were from Atlantic City, New Jersey to St. Thomas.

Spirit just announced today a one day sale from Fort Lauderdale to St. Thomas of $88. each way (plus tax) but it only goes up to May 23, 2007.

I just got back for st john Monday having flown spirit both ways and I will never fly spirit again unless they give me the five cent rate. We were stuck in Fort Lauderdale overnight and missed one night in our villa. They never once met there on time arrivals. They changed their luggage rules and you get only one piece of luggage a piece. Not an issue with us--just a new rule.

Donna:

I guess no airline is always on time.

Fortunately for me all 12 legs of our 3 round trips were either on time or early. Yes, the new baggage rule bothers me too.....I guess next time I check one bag and carry-on the other.
