I am flying from ATL to STT on Spirit in a couple of weeks, and I do believe the lady told me they'll go back to their normal schedule in December sometime.

That would seem to be so. All the airlines servicing the USVI cut back on their scheduled flights during slow season and then go back fulltime during season, Maybe you should try calling Spirit or work with a travel agent to find out? Cheers!

Mary, we're using FF miles for US Air.

I have been on spirits site quite alot. If you go on and try to book something for a specific time, it will come back and say something like "Flights resume to STT on "this date"" That was the only thing I was able to find out.

Another thing, I know flights have dropped. Friends booked their flights at about 750.00 and 2 weeks later their tickets went down to 580.00.

Good luck!

Hi
I was checking the Spirit airlines site today.. as they have their 48Hours sale on.. ..for curiosity I picked Atl Cty to STT.. for nov 29-dec 6 and it gave me a rate of $470.. without the extras. But the flights go through FLL...not non stop from Atl Cty.

Mary:

We've used Spirit three times from ACY to STT. But that was prior to all these "extra" costs for luggage & seating.

Now you need to add up all of the "extra" costs to determine if you're really getting a bargain.

We like flying out of ACY, but have had better deals out of Newark (EWR) on Continental & American.

Concerning the $48 special....it only applies to the $9 Member Club (which in itself is misleading since you really pay $29.95 to belong to the $9 Member Club).....if you're not a member you get $30. off.......however that's not exactly true either....since that applies to a telephone reservation not an on-line reservation.......the truth is, in the end, you get a $20. discount (round trip).......plus I've noticed that Spirit seems to raise their rates during their "special" sales......hmmmm.

"...Maybe you should try calling Spirit..."

Not possible since Spirit eliminated its customer service department a few months ago:

"...Refusing to fly probably won’t work. But boycotting a particular airline — now there’s an idea. Passengers might start by picking a carrier that has recently engaged in flagrant, customer-hostile acts. One likely target is Spirit Airlines, which shuttered its call center and began charging for advance seat reservations..."

I think what you need to do is look at the entire price of your ticket (including all of the new nickel/dime charges) then make your choice.

I've flown Spirit to STT three times and Las Vegas once......and never had a problem..........the convenience of ACY is a plus for me.....Newark (EWR) adds an extra cost from/to my NJ home which needs to be included in the overall price of the trip.

Boycotting an airline that services STT is not (IMHO) a good idea......we want more people coming here.

Spirit is a no-frills airline. They charged for luggage long before anyone else did. That's how they keep their prices low. And I'm paying hundreds of dollars less to fly on Spirit, so I'm not criticizing them at all.

I called just a few weeks ago to ask about my luggage. The lady was probably from India, but she did answer the phone and was helpful.

I do agree that in a time when airlines are cutting back on services, it's hard to be too upset with any airline that will fly people into STT at a decent hour. And from what I understand all their flights to STT originate from FLL, so you'll have a connection if you fly with them regardless. I'm pretty sure the flight only goes on Saturdays until December, but once their weekday flights from STT start back up, they have been inexpensive in the past.

I just flew Spirit today -- ACY-FLL-STT no problems - long day though - be at ACY 5:15 - land STT around 4pm. You get what they promise - a flight to STT. no frills - but it is the most convenient for my needs. ACY airport is exit 38A off the GSP.

I don't really like planes, so I just sleep anyway. In fact, my friend is on my flight and she wanted to pay to pre-select our seats. I told her, "I'd rather save the $40 and sleep on a stranger's shoulder for free."

I did get an e-mail from Spirit today, and if I pre-select my seat on their web site this week, it is on sale.

I apologize in advance if any of you happen to be sitting next to the big girl who will surely be sitting in a middle seat because she's too cheap to pay extra.

I fly from NJ and have found that Continental is about the best I can do. But I have flown Spirit from FLL to STT several times but it was only when the I could get a real good savings. My daughter has flown them for ACY and had no problems. Also the major airlines do not have a baggage agreement with Spirit so you need to claim your bags and then go to Spirit to recheck them.

So buyer beware.

Also, Spirit has no cross agreement with the other airlines if for some reason the flight does not go. So this could be a big problem in the off season when their flights are limited to Saturdays.

But I'll keep looking.

Buy the way I am booking my June trip and Continental is as low as 410 round trip. But one way has a stop in SJU and then over on Cape air which can also be a problem if weather hits. I was stuck in SJU for two days due to Omar.

As you may have read in an earlier post that I will never fly Spirit again. Over the past 10 months I have flown to STT 7 times.

On one occasion I ran across cheap tickets on Spirit Airlines so I joined their fare club and booked my flight. On our flight down our luggage was delayed and we recieved it the next day. On our flight back it was completely MIA. I was in a panic because we had not only our personal items and electronics, but corporate checks and all of our childrens' school books and the homework that they had completed while we were there for our 2 week stay. I did file a report in Chicago when our luggage went missing and was given a contact number. Well you can call Spirit a thousand times and never recieve a response. I called and called, faxed, Googled any number that I could find, but never once did I get a live response except when I was so frustrated that I called the ticketing agents that are halfway around the world and could not help me anyway. I did finally get our luggage back almost 2 weeks later via Fedex when they showed up at my door.

Now here is the real kicker. Last month my account was charged $39.95 for the Spirit Club Saver Fare. I called the number that was listed on my credit card, but of course it was the ticketing counter that told me that was my annual fee, I said cancel it. I was more than upset when I opened up this months statement and was charged another $39.95 for the same "annual fee". I have sent Spirit a certified return reciept letter last week and will let you know what their response is if I ever get one.

I know that I sound a little angry in this posting and it was suggested earlier that I should be cordial when dealing with customer service reps., but for your information Spirit does not have anyone to ever speak to when a problem does arise.

A strong word of caution from a well seasoned flyer.

Molly

I flew Spirit between FLL and STT for the first and last time this month. I won't fly with them again regardless of the price. Since they were so sub-par on every level that I as a customer could see, I have to wonder if they are equally bad about the things I don't see i.e. perhaps the inoperable bathrooms were indicative of their aircraft maintenance generally.

Recieved my return reciept notice from the US Postal Service last week about the letter that I sent to Spirit Airlines. I have not recieved any response and no credits to my charge card. Spirit must be run by a bunch of ghosts.
