Has anyone used their Sprint phone service on St John? If so, how did it go?

Try running through the previous threads on this as its a common subject. Results seem to vary but again, go through the previous threads. We brought my Verizon cell phone and it was useless once we got off the mainland. We also had trouble with the STJ payphones but were lucky enough to have the good staff at our campground let me use their phones to call around and call home to check in (using the phone card I brought).

Cingular and Sprint have the best coverage and is consider a local call from the USVI to the mainland. Verizon is local to Puerto Rico and then there is a fee from the tower in PR to USVI -and the coverage is spotty at best.

Most folks on the island use either sprint or cingular. On the back side of STJ it can get a little tricky because the phones will want to lock on to Tortola not a USVI tower and then it is a $3 a minute charge.

I cannot speak to sprint, but cingular if you call will drop the international charges if you say you were on STJ.

FWIW, I did have Verizon roaming coverage on STX last week.
Spotty in some areas, due to hills and such.
Good excuse not to carry it everywhere I went 😉

I used Sprint on STJ and had no problem with coverage in the Cruz Bay area or at the north shore beaches, but had only roaming coverage on the Coral Bay side of the island.
