I just was curious about something related t phone service on St. John. Some forum postings say that SPRINT is good on the island other say Verizon or Cingular. Staying in the Cruz Bay area and Westin Resort . Will I get Srint service or do I need to get a more reliable provider for my trip????Work and children seperation anxiety!!!!!!!

thank you

The only two providers I ever had service with on St. John are Sprint and Cingular. Maybe that has changed over the last couple of years. If you have Sprint, you should be fine.

We traveled at the beginning of May and used our Sprint Cell Phones all the time. I would think at the Westin you would get good service as we used the phones traveling by there. We didn't have trouble using them in Cruz Bay or up on Gift hill at all. Mainly had choppy service when driving along the roads that wind around and up and down. We used them at Trunk Bay and out at Skinny Legs too!

Just FYI!

Sprint has very good coverage in the USVI. Mine works great on STT, STJ, and even on the water between the two, and around the islands.

We used Sprint last year -- worked great in Cruz Bay, spotty on Northshore (even picked up a BVI tower and had to fight with Sprint over that charge), and very spotty/non-existant in Coral Bay.

This year...we are going the prepaid route through Cingular at .10/min.

Eric

p.s. Blackberry service also works well if you NEED to stay in touch with work but I advise against it if you plan on relaxing!

I just upgraded my Alltel coverage to cover the USVI for my trip in June. I don't remember reading much about Alltel coverage on the forum, so unless others can comment, I'll certainly let you know when I get back. I'll be upset if I can't check on the home front. Any Alltel users, let me know if I messed up.
Thanks

When using Altell in the VI's you're actually on the Sprint network, via their mutal roaming agreements. Altell does not have their own native network down there.

Thank you Ran Away. Since it's Sprint network I shouldn't have any trouble.
