If you could see or do one thing in St. Croix what would it be. I have been there several times and my dream would be to see the Contessa's house... I know that will never happen, but what other things are tops to do.

Go SCUBA diving! The north shore wall is great and there are many good dives on the west end also. Even snorkeling or diving in some of the lesser utilized parts of the Buck Island refuge are fun, too. Many places are shallow enough for either snorkeling or a "Discover Dive", which can be done with a scuba instructor even if you have never dove before.

Snorkel, dive, lie on the beach. Next day change the order around. RELAX!! That's why the islands are here.

I've been going to STX since 1989 BH (Before Hugo). Since there is so much to do (or not), I decided a couple of years ago that each time I went to St. Croix from now on I would plan an event/adventure. Most recently we spent a day with Tan Tan Tours exploring the island off road. It was absolutely amazing, especially the Annally Bay tidal pools.

Even though I don't snorkel or dive (can't swim) I totally recommend that to others. My next "adventure" will be to take an air tour of the island - these run about $99 total for 1-3 people.

What is a discover dive? My husband and 2 teenage boys may be interested in something like that. I think I mentioned before while we were chatting that we love to snorkel. I think my guys would love to try and dive but we just dont have the time for certification. My husband's bday is while we are down there and it would be fun to suprise him w/ something cool like that. Could you give me more details or get me in contact w/ the appropriate person?? Thank you so much for all you're help on this board. You are an invaluable source of info!! If I ever need a realtor in STX, I will definitely call you!! You never know....we may get the bug while we're down there!!

Phyl,
On a discover dive, you spend about 15 minutes or so learning the basics in very shallow water (about waist deep). Then you go out for a 30 minute or so dive. You go about 25 feet down. It's a great way to discover diving (hence the name).
My wife and I use N2 the Blue dive shop. They are the ones who certified us. They're a small shop on the north shore. They have a website that tells about them and you can contact them thru the website. Just do a search for N2 the Blue.

Hope this helps.
Ric

Discover Dives can officially go as deep as 40 feet. Once you have been through the intro Discover Dive process (the short intro to the gear and perhaps watching a short video on a DVD before jumping into the water), you get to enjoy your first scuba experience. Dives last varying amounts of time depending on how quickly you breathe through all of your air in the tank. Some last 15 minutes and others last an hour. Then you are able to do additional Discover Dives for the remainder of your trip without having to start with the DVD and equipment intro. The more you dive, the more comfortable you get and you can make your air last longer for more exploration.

N2TheBlu is a great operation on St. Croix. They will take great care of you. You can reach Derek to set up an outing at 340-713-1475

I am a PADI SCUBA Instructor, as well as a Realtor. All three of my sons and my three step-children are certified divers. Diving is awesome. You'll have an amazing time. I occasionally have time in my schedule to take people diving on either Discover Dives or to put them through an Open Water or Advanced certification course. More often I am busy showing homes and condos to buyers. I dive every chance I get, though!

When will you be on STX?

I was going to wait until we were down there to schedule anything. But I guess I could drop him a line just to let him know we're coming down and are interested. Thanks!! I'll do that.

Have a wonderful time! You'll want to get certified once you've gotten the bug.

I think you might be right.......to tell you the truth I'm a little fearful, but I won't let my guys go out there w/out me. So,
actually, I'm really looking forward to it......the family trip, trying something new (scuba) and just the whole adventure. Thanks again for all your advise!!! It's been extremetly helpful.
