For Pizza- STIXX is our choice. It is on the water in Christiansted. Yummmm We had the lobster there once too. I do not recall how good it was.

Duggans Reef on the east end has the reputation for having excellent seafood.

For pizza I would highly recommend Off the Wall on the North Shore.

Just returned from ten days on STX last Friday. Am still working on a trip report but have the restaurant section finished and some of our photos posted up at this point . Concentrated on the views from the restaurants.

Restaurants:
Had a great brunch at Cultured Pelican. Returned to try their pizza which is superb. Also went back for dinner – the Italian dishes were wonderful. We had superb service each time there. Thanks, especially, to Shawn and Roxie and to CP’s owner who found us a very nice table on an extremely busy night. Evidently, Thursday night is “one entrée free” night although we didn’t realize that and went without a reservation.

Duggan’s – as before, great lobster dishes and filet don’t disappoint. Perfect service and a great setting. Took picture while on the adjacent Reef Beach:

Paradise Café – lovely breakfast on the day we did our C’Sted shopping. Wanted to get into town early to get street parking near Sonya’s. Paradise Café is a small place, though, and it fills up fast.

Harvey’s – fabulous West Indian food. Felt like we were in someone’s home. I could see right into the raised kitchen and watch Mrs. Harvey work her gleaming pots. I had bbq chicken which had been cooked with herbs between the skin and meat - excellent. DH had potfish. Lots of sides included: beans and rice, plaintains, small corn on the cob – the super-finely grated cole slaw with the raisins, yumm, I could build a whole lunch around that. Mrs. Harvey was charming – she’s kind of like everyone’s mom. We arrived early for lunch – no problem, come on in, we’ll get you a cold drink and a huge glass of ice. Within a half hour the place was jammed. This is definitely a local favorite. Do not think twice about trying it if you want to be treated well and enjoy some authentic West Indian dishes.

The Shores at Chenay Bay – good lunch, very close to the beach, nice view.

Beachside Café at Sandcastles on the Beach – finally made it out to the west end. SOTB is located on a beautiful white-sand beach where the water is very clear and blue. Lunch was typical sandwich faire – good, but not great. I’d return, though, just to have lunch and enjoy the view and then use the gorgeous beach.

The Mermaid at the Buccaneer – nice menu choices, good lunch and excellent service. Nice day to come in for lunch and then enjoy the beach in the afternoon.

The Case Place – we picked this place as we both had too much sun and wanted something for lunch with a/c and no sun. No view, it’s near the docks in Gallows Bay. The food was really great, the owners very personable and there was a light and fun vibe. Definitely on our return list.

Rumrunners – great view, really good lunch.

The Terrace at the Buccaneer. Elegant, great food and service, beautiful sunset the night we were there.

Off the Wall – a new pizza oven and the pizza slices are very good. Can’t beat the location and the ambience, always fun.

Deep End Bar: Had a tasty late lunch here. Fun bar conversation, good mix of locals, expats and visitors. Some beautiful boats docked at the Green Cay Marina. Enjoyed the beach at the Tamarind Reef.

Had planned to try Salud which has been getting rave reviews but we ran out of time.

Thank you so much for your response!! Sounds like you had a wonderful time while in St. Croix. I am looking forward to my vacation in June. Thanks again for the restaurant reviews & the pictures. I certainly appreciate it. This is my first trip to St. Croix, although I have been to St. Thomas twice.

sabalpom - we did have a great time. This was our second trip, our first to STX was spring 2007. We have been visiting STT & STJ since the mid-80's, though. After the second day on our first trip, DH and I turned to each other and asked "what took us so long?" You'll find a different vibe on STX - not better or worse than STT or STJ, just different. We love all three of the USV islands - vacation to vacation, it just depends on what we are in the mood for. This trip was great since we found our way around a little bit better, tried not to let "villa gravity" claim us for too many days and finally made it out to the west end. Be happy to answer any questions - PM or e-mail me if you prefer.

Enjoy your trip!

Restr on the west end, in the order that I would choose:

1. St Tropez, excellent french food, very cute courtyard.

2. Turtles Deli, yes its a deli but the food is wonderful, never met anyone that wasnt impressed with their sandwiches and its right on the water and they are very laid back.

3. Beachside Cafe, on the water havent eaten there in years but the food was always great.

4. Villa Morales, really good local food made and served by the owners and a very friendly staff.

5. Sunset Grill good food (slow service) but a beautiful beach and cute restr.

Rest in C'sted

1. Kendricks my number one pick on island food is outstanding and service is good and wonderful atmosphere, but its not cheap about $35 a person, more or less.

2. Bachuss excellent service and good food. They have some very cravable dishes. Everyone loves the beet salad but I love the wedge salad with blue cheese, procuito and truffle oil...I'm drooling while writing.

3. Rumrunners is a good all around rest, a little something for everyone and inexpensive by island standards.

4. Harveys great lunch place that serves local food very inexpensively.

5. Shennigans, Avocado Pit or Rumrunners for breakfast.

Zebos and Savant are good but for the price I'd rather eat at Kendricks or Bachuss. I feel like I can cook as well as those two so I never go unless friends want to.

East end

1. Lori's Deli great deli and their desserts are as big as your head and to die for, but it doesnt really have much seating, so its better for pickup and go to the beach.

2. South Shore Cafe very good italian (handmade pasta and creative specials) but its not really kid friendly.

3. Bucaneer for their breakfast buffet.

Duggens in my opinoin is to be pass up. Not because of rude or lazy service (which is often the case) but because the menu is SO incredibly over priced for very avg food. Its about $30 to $35 a head (dinner) and its just not worth it.

We got back a few weeks ago. We loved Kendricks but were not particularly impressed with Duggens. It had a nice atmosphere but was pricey for just OK food. However, my son enjoyed his lobster which I think is one of their specialties. Cheesburgers is great for an inexpensive meal, $8.50 for a big burger and side. We ate all breakfasts and lunches (we got lazy) at the Buccaneer ,where we were staying. The resort''s food was surprising good and the view is great.

I'll echo everything said here and add that I've had nothing but great meals (breakfast, lunch or dinners) at Angry Nate's. Right on the water and very fair prices. I also am a big fan of The Bombay Club (not an Indian restaurant, BTW). It is back under the original management, the menu has not changed (nor has the chef) and it offers a wide range of fare from burgers and fish and chips to fresh catch and filet Mignon, as well as innovative specials all at fair prices. It's set back a bit in an old West Indian townhouse on King Street, but inside it's warm and inviting.

Can't beat Rumrunners for location and happy hour! The good menu is just a plus.

So many good restaurants! I agree that Duggans is a bit overpriced. Three additions to the above list: Dashi - great sushi in Christiansted and Bogey's - on the north shore with great lobster and Lobster Reef - also on the north shore with excellent food every time we've been there.

I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT ZEBO'S - not only did we find it very expensive, but we all thought the food was very salty. There are much better restaurants to choose from on St. Croix. I wouldn't waste my money again here.

Just returned from a long weekend junket to STX...Can recommend the "Green Parrot" for Sliders. More meaty than Crystal Burgers!
Nice view of the harbour.

If I'm not mistaken, Tippi is referring to Parrot Cove, formerly Zizzlers, formerly Tivoli Gardens, formerly....
