My husband and I, along with another couple have just made our reservations for 4/07. I am new to this board, I just love reading about everyone's experiences. We will be staying at Secret Harbour, and I hope we're not disappointed. I've read alot of good things about it, but an occasional bad review pops up. We have only been to the caribbean twice before - 17 years ago for our honeymoon in the Bahama's and 3 years ago on a cruise (Western Caribbean).

I tried snorkeling before and didn't do well. The water was choppy, my mask leaked, and I couldn't make myself breathe underwater. (its just not natural!) Anyway, I want to try again and wondered if I should just rent the equipment there, or purchase my own before we go.

I know I'm asking questions a little early, but does anyone know if Secret Harbour has blenders in their suites for mixing drinks?

Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated! I'm so excited I can't stand it, and I've got 9 more months to dream about it!

Well, you are going to miss the parades, which should be Friday and Saturday the 27th and 28th. But, if the schedule is as it usually is, you could visit Carnival Village, which should open Monday April 23rd and do to the Food Fair/Cultural Fair Wednesday the 25th. Lots o' fun if you have never experienced it.

On the other hand, the east end is far enough away that you won't get a lot of noise, etc.

I googled st. thomas carnival, but couldn't find any exact dates for 2007. Just that it is the month of April. I gather there is lots of live music which sounds like fun. Also the food fair would be fun. I think that's ok that I'll miss the parades. I'm glad we chose to go at that time - it will be fun to have something extra going on. I didn't know anything about it when I picked the dates, I just wanted to go right after the rates went down at Secret Harbour. You would think that they would keep the rates up the whole month of April if the Carnival brings in so many extra people. Or does it? Maybe its more for the locals?

Just one more reason to get pumped about the trip. Like I said before, this will be my first to STT, but I already know I'll want to return ASAP!!

Every trip to St. John found me renting snorkel equiptment and then suffering with leaky masks and ill fitting fins. A trip to Costco (like Sam's Club) and $40.00 later, I now have my own equipment, complete with carry bag and have never had a single issue! Purchasing was worth every penny - it would cost that much to rent for the week;-)
