Wednesday, June 14th

Still itching! Sorry for the delay. I had a serious case of jet lag and to-do's. Where were we? I remember, the good stuff! After it had rained all night, (did I mention the mosquito feast began that very first night?) we had awaken to partly cloudy skies and a warm wonderful day. We decided to have breakfast in town so we headed over to Chilly Billy's. I probably chose this place simply because we happened to drive by and it worked right then. The little man and I had French Toast with mine being a different version of their use to be on the menu Monkey Bread. Lizard Boy scarfed his right down so I assume he liked it. Mine was ok, there was lots of "goup" on it. The drama queen doesn't do breakfast so she ordered a Chef Salad and of course it had all the goods on it like mushrooms, green peppers and other such ingredients that she thinks are nasty so she ate the lettuce, cheese and meat and said "I don't like it." Surprise, surprise! Honey had the Breakfast Burrito and said it was good but that is his standard response so one never knows with him. Total was $44 plus tip. After breakfast, the plan was to hit Honeymoon and Solomon beaches. We knew we would have to hike to get there and decided to do it from the Caneel Bay Resort. We had to schlep all our junk with us as we were planning on spending the day and ok, so I'm kind of a princess but I can't even imagine doing one of those hour long hikes in the burning fiery sun. I think I'd drop dead after 40 minutes or so. It was a long dirt road and was so fricken HOT 20 minutes did seem like 40! I took a couple of those litre sized water jug things with the spouts, half frozen, half water. Honey had been bit**ing on our travel day about how he thought we were packing light and he was pi$$ed cause he didn't want to have to schlep all my crap. So I got pi$$ed and told him if I caught him with his lips on my bottles, I was going to rip them off. Yeah, guess who was slurping down my ice-y water first? So we finally arrive at picture perfect Honeymoon and at soon as we walk out onto the sand, three donkeys come out to greet us. Graduate Girl was all about immersing herself in that crystal blue water and well, Lizard Boy is in seventh heaven cause if you haven't guessed yet, and unfortunatly for me (man do I have stories to tell), he likes critters. The donkey's wanted a handout, he just wanted a ride! I told him to give them their space and set about trying to find the perfect spot. As there were only like 5 other people on the beach, that wasn't too difficult. As I proceeded to lounge like broccoli when I noticed a quiet calm (this is not a good thing when Lizard Boy is within shouting distance) and looked around. Honey and Lizard Boy are rubbing down those donkeys like they were best friends in the whole world. I didn't want either of them to get an eye kicked out so I made them stop. Nickie found an also 8 year old friend to play the day away with building sandcastles and rough-housing in the water and as we had our own snorkel gear, Honey decided to try out the first snorkel of our trip. He said is was pretty good and stayed out for quite a while.

After limin for a few hours, we decided to head over to Solomon. That trail turned into a much lovlier and shadier hiking trail and little did I know I was in for a treat (not!). Honey turned into Jeff Gorwin (I think that's his name) and proceeded to narate in an enthusiastically animated voice sounding just like the Crocodile Hunter about St. John and it's many animal inhabitants while Lizard Boy stopped to catch lizards every 30 seconds. Next, I heard a gasp of excitement and found that Lizard Boy had found his treasure for the day. The kid was in a state of euphoria over two hermit crabs that by this time he had crawling on his hands. As we rounded the trail toward the bottom and while Crocodile Dundee was still narating, I spied Johnny Ranger standing at the bottom chuckling and wearing a your entertaining me in a funky sort of way expression. The part where honey got caught being a dork I thought was hilarious. He felt a little sheepish and embarrased but the ranger thanked us for the smile we brought to his day. Said he was glad to see us enjoying ourselves. He was really great. He peeled the crabs off of Nickie and dropped them in his sand bucket instructing him to put them back in the forest when he was done inspecting them and then stood and spoke with us for about 20 minutes. We continued on to Solomon where there was only 3 people and spread out the baking dishes. Solomon of course is gorgeous and I loved how the palm trees are growing on the beach. Everyone took off to snorkel while I baked like the bikini girl I am and it was beachy good times. Honey loved the snorkeling at Solomon. There were giant Urchins, Parrot Fish, and Eel, Stingray, Anenomes, Corals, Ferry Basslets and I also think he said Clown Fish and Dorys. It was the perfect day at the beach.

Went back to the villa to clean up for dinner which was at Lime Inn (it's Wednesday, can I get a hoo-ha!). We couldn't find it and drove around like idiots until I happened to turn my head down the one way street and told Honey to drive around and back down. Score! We of course had to park 300 steps away but it was sooo worth it. Honey and I had the AYCE spicy, garlicky, cajuny shrimp which was YUMMY served with Parmesan Penne which was YUMMY. Little Man had a kids meal I think and I assume he liked it cause there wasn't anything left and Graduate Girl had a chiken sandwhich which she said was just ok (shocker!) and a couple of rum concoctions (have I told you yet that the girl likes rum?) that she happily slurped down. I loved Lime Inn. It had that feel good at twilight with the lanterns on and the lights twinkling. Dinner was $93 plus tip and it was yummy good times! Lime Inn is a must do on our next trip! Stay tuned for cows and a couple more beaches in my next installment. More to come...

Hey Chris, you may consider yourself a bit of a princess, but I'm right there with you regarding the hiking thing. I am an avid hiker and wilderness backpacker, and do not consider myself a princess by any stretch of the imagination, but in my opinion it is just too not and humid to hike on St. John (except the 1 mile FLAT trail in to Waterlemon or the short trails from the parking lot to the beach at a couple other spots).

Almost missed this trip report, but am glad I didn't! I'm finding your family saga highly entertaining.

Except please tell me YOU snorkeled at least once while you were there! The beaches are great but the water is not to be missed.

Yes mischievous, we are avid snorkelers and you will be happy to know that I snorkeled my bum off (you'll read about some of it in the next installment) and I enjoyed every minute of it! The one in our party that snorkeled the most??? Lizard Boy! He really "got it" this trip. He's benn snorkelling with us since he was 4 but this trip he finally discovered how awe inspiring it can be. I was so proud of the little fish. Just call him Snorkel Bob!
