We want to camp on St. John and are well aware of Cinnamon Bay and Maho Bay campgrounds but have found some mention of Vie's Campground and Snack Shack on Hansen Bay and wonder if it is still open and if anyone has any more info they'd like to share. Thanks!

It is still open, I went to a wedding there last weekend. There is a number in the phone book for Vie's snack shack - 340-693-5033. Hope this helps some.

Thanks - That does help! Having been there, do you think it is a nice place, good for quiet beachfront roughing it?

I was only there for a few hours on one afternoon, but from what I could tell, it's a nice beach and a nice setup for camping. My boyfriend knows a family (husband, wife + three kids) who camped out there for about six months while they were building their house. It seems like a nice, quiet beach, way far away from the "hustle and bustle" of Cruz Bay.

I like it over there. It's old Caribbean. You're really a world and a culture away from Cruz Bay. It's pretty primitive. I'm not sure what she has set up now. It used to be baresites and a shack that she'd rent. Then i think she got of few tents herself. Maho and Cinnamon have more amenities and conveniences, but at Vie's, it would actually feel like you were camping on a beach in the Caribbean. You'd need a car. Vie's open during the day, but your closest bar/restaurant/markets are in Coral Bay.
