So I have relatives who are bound and determined to get in some "live" gambling the week we are in the Islands (they want live dealers not video). We are staying at Gallows Point on St John and they want to go to St Croix to gamble even if it means a ferry back to St Thomas and a seaplane over to St Croix. Any thoughts? What is the gambling like? What casino should they go to? Where does the seaplane leave from?

There is only one casino on St Croix which is at Divi Bay. There is currently no ferry operating between St Thomas and St Croix. Your only option for getting there and back is a flight from St Thomas with Seaborne (the seaplane) or Cape Air offering regular flights. To the best of my knowledge there are no late night flights between the islands so if you wanted to gamble in the evening/night you would have to stay overnight. Your relatives may be bound and determined but this is one heck of a time consuming and expensive trip just to get in a few hours of gambling and, to be honest, really not worth it unless they have the guaranteed touch to win a jackpot!

With all due respect I have to ask why they are visiting STJ in the first place. Seems they would have been happier at Vegas and occasionally sit by the pool. I suggest they take advantage of STJ and if they really need to gamble perhaps they can bet on how many turtles are spotted at Francis, how long it takes to get a burn without using sunscreen, how many drinks they can consume at the Beach Bar, etc. (you get the idea).

Just don't let them gamble by driving on the RH side of the road!

I think the biggest gamble is the amount of time and money it takes to get there.
The casino doesn't open until 10am on weekdays so... (don't quote me on exact numbers, but close enough to make my point)
8:45 Charlotte Amalie Ferry $12 per person approx 40 minutes
Seaplane ride (I did a random weekday search) $191.00 per person 30 minutes
Taxi from seaplane to casino $18 per person

So approx 2 hours to get there and approx $130 bucks per person, one way

The last seaplane leaves at around 6 and there will be no Charlotte Amalie ferry so they will need to take a taxi to Red Hook
$12 bucks per person
Red Hook Ferry $6.00 per person

So to leave the casino
$18 bucks to seaplane
Plus the plane ride, tax, and ferry
$136.00 approx

So, just about 4 hours of travel over $250 a person just to get there and back.

Maybe someone can tell me different but based on my research that is what I come up with.

If they book flights that connect through San Juan they could stay overnight there or have a long layover and visit the casinos there.
