Believe it or not I have been to St.John many time's and have never heard of Water Island before. What is the difference between the 2 islands? From what I can see it is very small with just a few houses. What's the attraction?

St. John is totally different. Water Island is a small, mostly residential island on the south side of St. Thomas. The attraction? Seclusion, and safety more than anything else. It's not a resort atmosphere nor is there a national park. It's what I call "real" island life.

Maybe the attraction is that it is very small with just a few houses. 😉

I was wondering how many houses were there and what there is to do during the daytime? I assume they don't have any stores? Do most visitors just hang out at the rentals and swim all day during there vacation? Is this like being on survivor with perks? lol

IMHO, people who would be happy on Water Island would be ones who don't have to "do" anything on vacation. Read a few good books, sit on the beach, hike around and look at the flora and fauna, grill on your deck, chat with other visitors and locals, etc. If you need to have action, I wouldn't suggest Water Island.

Water Island is all of the things mentioned in this thread. We are a small, quiet and safe "village". There are about 100 homes on the island and about 120 residents. Additionally, Honeymoon Beach does offer Heidi's Honeymoon Grill and Joe's Beach Bar. There is Monday Night at the Movies on Honeymoon beach where Heidi shows a current movie on a large screen and serves popcorn, drinks, etc. The movie screen is large, secured between coconut palms. You can make it a "drive in" or Heidi has chairs for audience seating. On Wednesday nights there is Wii bowling tournament in the Pavillion on Honeymoon Beach. Sometimes there's bingo in the pavillion as well. Heidi serves a gourmet meal on the beach on Saturday nights - a very lovely experience. You can do day trips to St. Thomas and St. John or other surrounding islands and come back "home" to Water Island for a quiet evening. If you are more inclined to bar hop, go out to different restaurant every night, etc......then Water Island may not be a place you would choose to "anchor". For folks that prefer a lot of external activity each evening, then St. Thomas or St. John would be more appropriate. In any case, if you're in the Virgin Islands.....it's ALL good.
