This is the first time to vacation at St. Johns. Hoping to get some good tips on flight information; what airport is the best to fly into? Best rate for the flight? Best car rental rates?
Thanks!
Very excited about going to this beautiful area!

The airport is in St Thomas - you will be taking a ferry to St John [ no 's' ] - the best rates will be midweek - depending on where you originate it may be cheaper to fly direct to San Juan and then STT - direct flights from Miami are often a good deal - some people prefer to rent a car on STT and take the car ferry - loading luggage one time each way and food shopping in STT is the advantage - depending on your STJ arrival time the on island car rental agencies may be closed after 5 or 6pm - if you are in a villa they may be able to arrange for a late pickup if they are an on island company - the questions are fairly general so I hope that helps.

Have a great time!! We spent many years going to STJ and staying in Coral Bay. Yup. Flights arrive only in STT. Then you taxi to a ferry then over to STJ.....It's a bit of a haul but so worth it. Where are you staying? Great beaches....Francis, very calm for swimming....seeing turtles. My favorite hang out beach. Salt Pond, great snorkeling, interesting hikes, I saw a way great octopus there. Walk over to the Coral People. Great beachcombing. Waterlemon Cay, good snorkeling if you are a strong swimmer, go around the island. Have fun!

Do you want to go to St John USVI or St Johns Antigua - I no longer assume just because people post on this forum 🙂

If St John USVI you fly into St Thomas and catch the ferry to St John

When booking flights I learned a really great trick this year. Book one way tickets. We have been going to St. John for 7 years always booked a round trip about $1300.00 out of Vermont to St. Thomas. This year we booked two one ways from Vermont to STT. Saved over $500.00. Rent a vehicle from Courtesy on St. John amazing people, great customer service, great vehicles, can park in their lot while shopping in Cruz Bay. Shop local Dolphin Market, StarFish market. Remember you are on vacation in a beautiful island. Support local economy, When speaking to locals use Good "morning, afternoon or evening" before asking questions and you'll make great friends and get many happy responses. Stay left drink right! Enjoy your time.

Just last week there was someone on the TA board that was asking about 2 villas on STJ. One was on Water island and the other on Antigua, so it is not uncommon for folks to get confused.

In VI the local spoken langugae is broken code of English with leftovers from the danes and west african overtones--not proper north amecian english. What the big deal about the common error of St Johns? Why the need to point aout the error over and over and over? Do y'all go around the islands policing grammer? Must be a long day.

Sorry you feel that way but being in the excursion business I have (more than once) found guests dinghy rentals, fishing charters, catamaran sails etc and when I got to the "meeting place and time" they responded with "what National Park Visitors Center" or "what restaurant called High Tide" and only then did it click with them that they were booking a charter on the wrong island even though at the beginning of our conversation I always make it very clear where I am located. I have also had one person not show up for a house showing (I am a Realtor also) because they were on St John's !!!!! I am gathering as this person has not responded that they might have indeed have been due to visit Antigua.

Pia

ps: being born in England I hate to break it to you but you're not speaking English either (joking - maybe)

Now that I am on a roll, the next time I visit Boston or New York I'll just start calling it Boston's and New York's and I'll approach a local on the street and ask, ever so politely, "what is there to do here in Boston's (or New York's) - I wonder how long it would take for me to be corrected - probably a New York minute and not a New York's minute !!!

Pia on ST JOHN

And yep I need to eat !!!
