I have been reading posts on your site for months and I must say everything is very informative. I will be arriving in St. Thomas on Thursday and have a few questions. First how is the weather now and what does the forecast call for over the next couple of days. Secondly I was wondering about our hotel, The Frenchmans Reef (Mariott), how does it rank in the area and is the area around it safe, also what are some restruants/bars that are near. My girlfriend and I are both seniors in college and would like to find some nightlife that is close, I hear cabs are both expensive and tough to negotiate with. Also where would be a good place/bar to go to watch some of the NCAA tournament games that is near the hotel.
Thanks your opinions are greatly appreciated.

Hello Steve,

Glad you have enjoyed the site; hope you will visit the board after your trip and share your opinions of the hotel, restaurants, beaches with us - so others can benefit from your comments.

Its nice and warm today, breezy with a few clouds. A few short scattered showers earlier this morning. Frenchman's Reef Resort is a great resort. There is a recent review of it - if you look a few days ago. Its a multi-level resort at the end of a penisula sort of. Private - you pass through residential areas to get to it and it basically has the end of the penisula to itself - shareed with its sister property Morningstar Resort down on the beach. The pools there are nice, tennis court, beach, ferry to town, watersports, bar, restaurants - you name it. Its in a safe area - yes. The review I mentioned was by college folks too and they talked about some nightlife they did - so again look for that post. Nightlife - there is some at the resort, and you can take a cab to Paradise Point on Wed. for Happy Hour, check out the bars in Havensight... maybe head to town for dinner and nightlife one night and another night head to East End for dinner and nightlife at Duffys, XO ect. Cabs are pricey - they negociate if you have a large group or if you are using them all day or for several days otherwise the prices are set. You can check out the prices under transporation in the St. Thomas guide on this web site - look for hotels to popular area and then you can get the rates for Frenchmans to places you might want to go.

Hope someone else can help with the NCAA games - I know Iggies at Bolongo and Caribbean Steak House in Red Hook usually show various sports. One of the bars in Havensight might also.
