We are starting to plan a vacation for Feb 2012 with our son and his girlfriend (in their 20's). We want to stay in a condo (2 bedroom) and in an area where they can walk to shop, restaurants, bars, etc. We don't want to be in a secluded area--like to people watch, etc. We really want to stay in a budget of no around $2000-2500 but not sure if that is possible. We definitely want a pool and on the beach. Any suggestions for places to rent? What are the average meal prices, drink prices, etc? Any information on the island you can give me would be great.

You should look into VRBO.com or homeaway.com. These sites are rented by owners and will cut down on your costs. Also they will have full kitchens saving on meals. We like to shop for groceries for breakfast and lunch, out to dinner. As far a walking distance, most places while close in distance are not really walkable. I always recommend the east end of St. Thomas, Best mix of seclusion but close enough to Red Hook for night life. My personal recommendations are Pt. Pleasant, 2 restaurants/bars on site, Secret Harbor restaurant/bar on site and Sapphire Beach. Hope this helps.
