Hi Everyone!
My two girlfriends and I are planning our summer 2006 trip and are thinking about St. Thomas. We are three thirty-something women who like the beach and sightseeing by day and the nightclub scene by night. Does St. Thomas fit this profile? Also, are there any moderately priced all-inclusives?

Hello Nycole,

Beach and exploring by day is definitely available on St. Thomas. Nightclub - depends on what sort of scene you are looking for. There are several bars to check out; some have happy hour, sunset parties, live bands etc. This isn't big city nightlife though. Also if you were visiting in late June you could catch some of the Carnial events over on St. John which includes both daytime and some evening activities.

All inclusive - you could look into Wyndham Sugar Bay or Bolongo Bay.

Dear Nycole,

I wouldn't go for all-inclusive. There was only one all-inclusive resort here on STT and that was Sugar Bay but even they soon realized their error and now offer options. The former Stouffer Grand on the East End eventually became part of the Renaissance and then was sold to a Mexican-based hotel group who re-named it Grand Beach Resort and which venture failed miserably. The property is still for sale. Why? Well, let me try and explain in as few words as possible.

Unlike resorts in Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic or in several other Caribbean destinations where the walled-in enclaves of the property basically protect visitors from the "outside world," the United States Virgin Islands doesn't have the major problems which require insularity from the outside.

Of course we have crime here. Crime is everywhere. One has to be careful wherever one might be, whether in one's home town or on a Caribbean island or at any sort of a vacation place. "Don't leave your brains behind" would be a good caveat!

As far as accomodation is concerned, I'd suggest you look into Sapphire Beach Resort or Secret Harbour for your stay, Both are basically beachfront and offer accomodations which have nice basic kitchen set-ups, decks and everything you would need to just enjoy.

As far as nightlife is concerned, there are some options available but also remember that the day life (the swimming, the snorkelling, day trips to St. John, sailing trips, etc,) rather take their toll!

Yes, I did read that you're only in your thirties but the daily activities of sun and sand often render vacationers of any age pretty much GONE by 9PM and ready for a new day the next day...

Cheers, dears!
