I am happy I found this message board, so much good information, thanks to all who support it. I have booked accomidations at the Carib Beach Resort. I am looking for comments about this facility other than what I have learned from their own and Best Western web sites. Do they have a beach? So close to Airport is noise a problem?
I have been told we could use facilities at their sister property Emerald Beach Resort. What about using beaches and pools at other resorts is this possible as general rule or exclusive for guests?
Do you reccomend bringing/purchasing snorkle gear from home or renting/purchasing in STT?

Hi Jim:

Honestly I can't give you any information about the place(s) you booked because I never stayed there, but I do know that the "beaches" in that location (if that is what you want to call them) are not exactly the best places to experience beaches in the USVI.

Not to worry? My advice to you is to rent an inexpensive vehicle (I think it can be done for less than $200/wk) and visit some of the nicest beaches STT has to offer. I would recommend Secret Harbour and Sapphire Beaches near Red Hook. Crystal clear water, white sand beaches, and excellent snorkeling (at Secret Harbour). Then there is Megans Bay which is absoulutely stunning but I think you have to pay a fee to access. Another popular tourist beach is Coki Beach next to Coral World. The latter 2 beaches I mentioned can get busy with the cruise ship crowd so you may want to check schedules when they are in port.

As for the pools, my experience has been that they are nothing great. In the 3 times I was in the USVI, I had access to pools and was not the least bit impressed...... especially when there are beaches like I described.

Do some sight seeing while you are there too. Mountain Top, Blackbeards Castle, Drakes seat etc.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a great time and let us know how everything went.

On snorkel gear, I would rather use my own. You do not know what germs the previous user had that could be passed on to the next guy using it. It's more of a health issue for me I would say.

Good advice from TMax above. Renting a vehicle would be the best way to go.

Why bother with pools when there are so many nice beaches around? More so if you could make it to STJ for the day. Explore!

Good luck!
