Hello and good afternoon! I know all over Florida beaches there are signs reminding you to make sure you do the "sting ray shuffle". Of course you always SHOULD where flip flops or some sort of beach shoe in Florida as well. I know the usvi has Rays, but I have never heard any big deal about making sure you shuffle your feet when entering the beach, lol, in fact, I probably have heard 10 times more about leaving valuables in your car when at the beach. So anyway, in the various beaches around STX and STT do you have to do the "sting ray shuffle" and wear beach shoes when entering a super soft sandy beach with no rocks??? Or do the Rays there not bury themselves in the sand close to shore like they do in Florida??? I just know it would be really cool if there were no rocks and just soft sand if you could walk into the Sea with bare feet 😎

Yes, we do have rays.

No, we don't do the sting ray shuffle (at least I don't) in the VIs.

Yes, we do have soft sand that you can walk into the water on in your bare feet.

Our water is so clear that only those with serious sight problems can't see where they are stepping.

We frown on visitors wearing shoes while stepping on our precious coral.

We frown on people who stand on coral period, shoes or no shoes! In fact, many of us have been known to do much more than just frown! (td)

So in short when you are on a white sandy beach you do not have to worry about stepping on any rays that may have burried themselves up close to the shoreline??? :S

You can worry but it's not at all necessary to do so.

Never had a problem at all. The rays like to rest in the grassy areas on the bottom, usually a little off shore. Have a great time!
