I have read that some of the beaches on STJ do not let you "beach" the dingy. Does anyone know which ones do allow this? We are planning on renting a dingy and visiting Salomon, Hawksnest, Jumbie, Trunk and Cinnamon.....

When you rent your dinghy they will give you a map that tells you which beaches you can beach your boat. I know that you can beach at Salomon, Jumbie. I'm pretty sure you can at Trunk, Cinnamon and Hawksnest too. It's a great way to spend a day at STJ. It's lots of fun.

Do you all know a ball park cost for the dinghy rentals? I'm assuming they are 2 person?

Don't know why Noah's Little Ark doesn't have a complete website up but here's a link with a telephone number:

I may be wrong, but a 1/2 day is about 80.00. It's well worth it. I think a full day would be great, but that's a long time out on the water with the sun. You can go as far as Waterlemon and then make your way back to Cruz Bay.

It's definetly one of the most fun things to do on St. John and one of the most reasonable too.

Good luck, do it!

I am going to be in St John this summer with my husband and 9 year old daughter and we talked about getting a dinghy for a day, are they only 2 passenger, or would two adults and a child fit in one?? Thanks!

We got the "larger" dinghy (I forget the exact description of size) and it easily accommodated 3 adults and 2 children. Seems like it was in the $100 range + a little more - this was a couple of years ago. I don't recall if we paid for fuel additionally - I think it was in the price. We have rented boats where fuel is charged separately and this can be expensive - good to ask about to see if included.

We did think that "beaching" it was harder than we thought it would be. The crazy thing kept trying to get back to sea and it's fairly heavy when it's being pulled away by the forces of nature!

BTW - the dinghy trip was a definite highlight for us - super fun!!! We vote not to miss it!
