Does anyone know the scoop on a planned celebration/festival/whatever on Dec 12 on STJ? We saw something about this on the Inner Visions Myspace website and wonder if there's a link or something we could check. We are leaving to go home:-( that day from our latest week on the island but if there are early day activities in Cruz Bay or elsewhere, we want to be sure to participate a little before boarding the ferry to get back to the airport. We can't re-arrange our trip unfortunately but we'd love to enjoy a bit of this if possible. Thanks all!

The event that comes to mind is the St. John Christmas Festival and Children's Parade in Cruz Bay. There is usually a parade for children in the late afternoon, with Santa Claus; and then in the early evening a concert. It is usually around the 2nd week of December, not sure of the dates for it this year.

Oh that sounds like so much fun. I would love to experience a St. John Christmas celebration someday. Except here in Michigan you would have to wear boots, jackets, gloves and hats. Well, maybe next year I can try to plan on being there then for it.

We will be there then so hope that's the date - that would be awesome! Still hoping that is when Miracle on Main Street is too. Wish they would set these dates but guess they aren't counting on tourists 🙁

Ok here is the scoop on the St. John Christmas Parade and Concert:

"Sunday, December 13, 2009: The parade will start in front of Mongoose Junction at 6:30 pm and go by the passenger ferry dock and up the street by Connections and right into Winston Wells Ball Field.

Santa will then give out free presents to all the children in attendance in the Ball Field.

At approximately 7:30 pm the concert will start. This year's concert features some of the most talented High School Jazz musicians from St. John, St. Thomas and St. Croix.

Opening the show will be St. Thomas high school student Jazz prodigy sax player Malachi Thomas and his band JAZZ LAKE.

Our headline act is The Central High School Jazz Ensemble from St. Croix.

The entire evening is free and is sponsored by Merchants Commercial Bank, Tropical Properties, Chelsea Drugs, Theodore Tunick & Company, Holiday Homes, First Bank, American Paradise Realty, Donald Sussman and Steve & Helen Simon."

OK, thanks for the update. Sounds like we're a full week off anyway. We love seeing Inner Visions in person, maybe they'll change their own schedule if we're really, really lucky!

Largosgirl - the event you asked about you said was December 12th so I kept looking for information on that event. Here it is:

"December 12th, 2009: Mongoose Junction hosts its annual 'All Island Holiday Party'. Starts at 8pm until 2am. Music by Inner Visions. The Mongoose Junction restaurants usually offer free samples of their food. Big party; residents and visitors welcome."

Gotcha, thanks Islander, I was messed up for a minute there with my dates. We do have to leave that day so it still does look like we're going to miss the fun of that day but we'll still have the joy of being back on STJ for that week until the 12th. Dance some funky reggae for us please!8-)
