I have a tiny map of STJ taped to my work desk as I wait out the next 5 long months till our next VA-CA there. What does anyone know about the following bays that I don't think I've been to, nor heard anything about: Drunk Bay, Fish Bay, and Round Bay. I see where they are but do they go by other names- how's the accesibility at each and how is the snorkling from land at each? And no, I don't mean Trunk, this Drunk Bay is over by Coral Bay.

The only one I know anything about is Drunk Bay. It is along the same path as Salt Pond Bay. It's about .2 miles of a walk from parking to Salt Pond Bay and another .4 miles over to Drunk Bay. My understanding is that Drunk Bay is not good for snorkeling but has more waves to play around in. Sorry, I don't know anything about the others.

Round Bay is on the East End. The beach is mostly pebbles and not conducive to sunbathing but the water is beautiful and snorkling is excellent to the left of the bay. It's an ideal place to come into by boat. If you are thinking of going over to the East End try going to the beach at Vie's. A good place to eat too!

Fish Bay is on the south side - just over (west) from Rendezvous and Klein Bays. Google "villas st. john fish bay" and you will get some villa listings with view pix of Fish Bay so ou can see it. On maps, these bays look like they overlap each other - for instance, Rendezvous / Klein / Fish Bays seem like the same place on a map. There is some very limited road parking and a path in near Ditliff Point, I think.

Okay thanks everyone! We're staying at concordia ecotents this time so Vie's is a given and we're always looking for new places to snorkle! And its finally not chilly here in the Boston area after the 3rd coldest May in recorded history!! Yuck! Bring on the warm VIs!!!

You're right - the weather here in Boston has been awful this spring. I am SO jealous! Have a great stay at Concordia; we've been twice and absolutely love it - I'm gonna be googling for airfare pretty soon...

Drunk Bay is a beautiful place to visit after the walk from Salt Bay. When we visited there were interesting "sculptures" that people had made of rocks, shells and driftwood. However, the water was quite rough and not suitable for swimming unless you are a fish.
I highly recommend St. John, Feet, Fins & Four-wheel Drive by Pam Gaffin for excellent info on snorkeling, driving and walking around St. John.

I would love to read your impressions of the concordia ecotents if that's where you stayed. I have read the blogs here and we visited the place during our last stay at Maho 5 years ago but I always like to hear more details. Did they have battery operated refrigs to rent or were there just coolers with ice like at Maho? I've also gotten mixed info on trails to the beaches from the ecotents- can you or can't you walk down to the beaches at ?Salt Bay or wherever from Concordia and if so, how is the beach for snorkling and beaching? We can't wait to go back!!!

I bought the book (Feet, Fins & Four-wheel Drive by Pam Gaffin )on our last trip in '01 - it is excellent.
