Hello- We will be n STT from 4/13-4/20 and are trying to plan our first daysil trip. I searched the forum and looked at alot of info on other sites and have narrowed the search down to a few daysail outfits that seem like good candidates...

I'm wondering if folks who have done this before have any inputs on which they would choose, or reccomendations on where to go, etc..

Thanks!

Here are the top contenders right now-, any ideas or suggestions?

I have been on 3 of the 4 - not the catamaran - but I do see the Catamaran doing a lot of motoring while most other vessels sail.
Both Jester and Morningstar sail out of Water Bay - this makes for a very long upwind beat in the morning in Pillsbury Sound against the waves and current - most days - so it can be wet and 'sporty' and limits how far they can get and how much time they can spend at anchor because of the longer trip home - Captain Max leaves out of Red Hook so has a considerable head start in both time and distance and a much shorter exposure to rough water.
I do not know the new owners of Morningstar but see their itinerary is much more limited than Captain Jake always sailed - both them and Jester are usually at Honeymoon on STJ for their one snorkel stop - you don't get to see much of STJ that way and it can be very crowded in the water and on the beach with the big catamarans bringing large groups to snorkel and New Horizons will be there as well. Maxine sails much farther and usually stops in a much less crowded snorkel spot. Scubadu does go pretty far too, as I mentioned, usually under power.
They all do this day sail in a very professional way and are quite good at it on a daily basis - in all weathers and conditions and are absolutely respected for the safe and seaman-like way they operate.

Yes - in front of the old Virgin Grand or Renaissance Hotel - not quite as far north as Coral world.

We love two different experiences. We have day sailed for years on Heavenly Days, a catamaran. Both Captain Peter and the newer guy (I can't remember his name, apologies) give you a good day and have wry humor. Food is great, booze plentiful it that is your thing. They go over to St. John, and you get a nice snorkel. Or just sit on board and soak up the sun.
We have sailed with several others, both 6-packs and larger. We loved young Adam who took over Ike Witt but understand he had to go back to the mainland with a wife and new baby. Bummer: it was a dream of his and we shared it with him. We like Nightwind, out of Saffire and have taken several sails with them. A larger boat, it take, I think 12 and serves breakfast as well as lunch. Nice folks to sail with, and easy parking (we prefer to avoid Red HOok and the hassles of finding a parking place) . In our 30 some years of trips and day sails, we'v had only one really bad experience!

You'll have such fun!

we had a great experience with New Horizons. One of the best days of our trip. I will say that it seemed they really packed them in though - we had 35 people on our boat. Once we all got on it didn't seem to crowded though. Beautiful day, great food & open bar, great crew.

Wayward Sailor, Captain Phil - hands down the best experience on the island.

How long ago did Pat leave/sell the Ike Witt? We sailed with him in November '06 and had a fantastic day.

Is the boat still in service?

Pat sold the boat in 2008 - He and his lovely wife Stacy have opened a small guest house in Dominica.
