Hi gang, I'm new to the forum but I could use some advice. I've been having some problems with my STX timeshare lately. For one, I've had to reschedule my vacation time at work 3 times now just to get the week I wanted. That was a pain and now my maintenance fees have gone up. It's like the cost is proportionate to the hassle. I'm mulling my options and I wonder if anyone here has dealt with timeshares before, particularly in this area? Thanks.

Do you have a floating week or are you paying extra to switch. Is your time share RCI or Interval. Whats in your maintenance fee (such as RE Tax, WAPA bill.,etc.) Is your property deeded or leasehold.

Thanks for the fast response!

I have a floating week but it often floats out of my grasp. I think the property is deeded but I'll have to check my original contract. I've never used exchange companies, although I think the property is RCI-affiliated. I have no idea what the maintenance fees are technically "for," that's something I should definitely look into!

If you think the management company is playing games with your week, you can go to the board with a complaint, sometimes that could make matters a little better or just the opposite. If the property is deeded thats your only option. If it is a leasehold with the owner being USVI you can file a complaint there. Board members do not like dealing with the Govt. As far as your expenses the Board must furnish you copies for all expenses annually.

Hi jrusss. Lizard gives good advice, I'd try complaining, although I know that it probably seems like the last thing that would work. My parents have had pretty bad luck with timeshares, too (those scumbags really prey on the elderly, they have no shame) so I can sympathize. There are a few websites that may have better answers...I've found some good articles at the timeshare consumer group ( http://www.timeshareconsumergroup.org), although most of them are how not to scammed with a timeshare, not necessarily how to get out of a scam. I think they have a forum, though, too. Sorry about your vacation troubles, I'm sure it's annoying.
