I read somewhere that there is a beach that has music on Sunday afternoon, but can't remember where. Anyone have any info? Thank you!

The Beach Bar in Cruz Bay has a jazz band on Sundays.

You can also try Megan's on a Sunday. People (usually) have parties on Sunday afternoon.....just sit nearby and enjoy....perhaps you'll be asked to join them.....good luck.

mamie: You were asking directions from Peterborg...closer to you is Hull Bay and they have music frequently on Sunday afternoon.

Miss Lucy's on St. John has a Sunday Jazz Brunch that I've read about. You could start there, and then move on to the Beach Bar Sunday afternoon!

Joe's Beach Bar has a jam session on Sunday afternoons on Honeymoon Beach, Water Island. Bring your instrument! It's really fun even if you don't play or sing.

That sounds fun... what time does Joe's Beach Bar jam session typically start up?

I wonder if you were thinking of the Sapphire Beach party. It is no more, sadly. Until a few months ago, it took place on Sunday afternoons and was where everyone went for live music and dancing...a big, big beach party. Ever since Sapphire started having the issues with the owner's association and whatever, the party has been cancelled. You used to be able to take part in the party, or just sit on the beach and listen to the music.

I'm sorry to see that one go. I always knew I'd see familiar faces there.....a good palce to catch up with folks.

Bluwater, I think the one at Sapphire Beach is the one I was referring to, alas! Do you recommend any of the other places; we will have a toddler and baby with us so the beach scene would have been perfect, as opposed to a clubby-type place.

SoCaTraveler, sorry for the delayed response. Joe's Beach Bar jam session usually start to crank up around 1-ish. Go early and enjoy Heidi's Honeymoon Grill. Burgers are excellent and usually on Sundays she serves up a wonderful steak sandwich. Of course, everything else on the menu is good too including chicken, chicken ceasar, etc. Joe serves one of the best bushwackers I've ever had.

.......I have no business affiliation with Heidi or Joe by the way. Just a satisfied customer/patron. Both offer friendly, efficient service and very good drinks (Heidi & Joe) & food (Heidi). Honeymoon Beach is lovely. Heidi has picnic tables under palapa or coconut trees and Joe has tables with umbrellas, or bar stools around his bar-on-boat-trailer (a really fun set up) and lounge chairs WI residents show up on Sunday to enjoy or participate in the jam session or play dominos or visit with neighbors and other beach friendly people or..........

mamie, I'm with you...trying to find a new spot for live beach music. Future Islander recommended Magen's Bay and I agree that Magens has good music and a party atmosphere on Sundays when the locals come out to socialize. However, it usually isn't live music. Last time i was there (Feb 07) a church group set up in the pavilion just behind where i was sitting and they started to sing the most beautiful spirituals....acapella. Not exactly what you were looking for, but an example of the kind of things that spontaneously happen on Magens Bay on a Sunday afternoon. It was surreal - that entire area of beach went silent to listen. You can't imagine how peaceful that felt.

Hi East Ender...long time no chat! Hope you're doing well.
Is the music at Hull Bay "live"? Might have to give that a try.

Yes Mamie:

Sapphire Beach Sunday is no more. Boo Hoo, Hoo! I've been enjoying Sapphire Sunday Jump-up for the past 6 years, so you know that I will desperately miss it. I was down there for 13 days during Easter Break and the new spot for Sunday Jump-up is Coki Point. They are using the Aquarium Parking lot and Coki Beach for the party area. The music is live and good, but the parking is sparse because the roadway and parking lot are small and there is no shelter from the rain, but the beach is great for adults and kids alike.

Hull Bay has live music if you're into bootleg Jimmy Buffett type, which is not Caribbean jump-up music, and Hull bay is not as nice as other beaches on the island or as safe and shallow as Coki Beach.

The Renaissance Hotel is being renovated and will soon reopen. Hopefully, they will take the Sunday Jump-up back (that's where it originated from). Until then, Coki Beach is the best Sunday jump-up that ST.Thomas has to offer.

Enjoy your trip, and don't forget to step in my footprints!

Wow, where on earth does anyone park during the Coki jump-up? It is hard enough to park there anyway. Also, Coki is such a small beach. How is it handling the crowd?

I bet the food vendors are happy!
