Does anyone know of anywhere or any person who offers surfing lessons on St. Croix?

I know the surfing on St. Croix isn't great, but my brother would like to take an hour or two introductory class.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Doug

NebraskanOn STX,
This is not what you asked for, However ST Croix Water Sports Center, Located on the same island as Hotel on the Cay, gives Windsurfing lessons and rentals, they might be able to help you out. 340 773 7060.

I called the S. Croix Water Sports Center and they don't offer surfing lessons.

They also said that the don't know of anyone else on the island who offers lessons.

They said that most of the surfing on St. Croix is over reefs and is quite dangerous.

It sounds like St. Croix might not be the best place to pick this sport up . . .

Surfing on STX is mostly reef breaks. There are a couple of places like Salt River and Fredrickstead north towards Hamm's Bluff where the undersea cables come ashore that are't to dangerous.
Surfing here means checking 5-6 spots around the island then take your chances. We have mostly a wind swell unless it gets stormy.
You could bring a boogie board and some fins and ride whatever waves you can find.
Spots to check out are Shoy's way at the end of the beach, Judith's Fancy follow the road straight out to the sea, St. Croix by the Sea Condo's, Cane Bay, Salt River and beaches on the north west side. It depends on which way and how strong the wind blows.

Send him over to Hull Bay on St. Thomas. Hull Bay Hideway is a nice lil place and he'll definitely find someone there who can give a lesson or 2.

STX is not the place to learn to surf. You will spend most of your time finding suitable waves, not riding them.
