This is what I found out on the Baths on the internet.

The BVI National Parks Trust have done their best to make this path as easily navigable as possible, without ruining its natural surroundings. Take your time and choose each step carefully.

So my ? is do I have to climb up and down boulders to get to the beach? If so, I am scard of heights and chicken when it comes to that if I feel I can possibly fall. I may have to choose a tour that you swim in instead. Any input will be helpful.

Dawn - I would imagine Limnos would drop you off to swim in if you told them your concern. When we rented a captained powerboat from Nauti Nymph, they dropped us off where the boats set anchor just in front of the beach - - about a 50 yd swim.

And the boulders are mostly at ground level, so I don't think you need to worry about falling. There are some trails that have steps up to higher areas, but you can avoid that completely.

So am I to understand that to get down to the beach I don't have to do any climbing over any boulders. There are stairs from the top entrance to the beach?

Hi Dawn,

You don't need to climb up or over any of the huge boulders while at the Baths. Actually, there are a few places you need to follow the trail through and among the boulders, but not over them.

FWIW, the one time we went to the Baths was a few years ago, and also on the Limnos. At least then the way they did it was to dock at the nearby marina (I forget the town name), check us all through customs, and then put us on taxis to take us to the trailhead to get down to the beach and do some snorkeling or just enjoy the remarkable sights. In other words, back then we didn't just get into the water from the boat.

Great, that is what I wanted to hear. Limnos still does it the same way. No hugh boulders to climb over. Around no problem.

Thanks everyone!

Dave from Boston is right, we took Limnos this past Nov to the Baths and had a fabulous time. They motor you to Spanishtown where the marina is, then taxi you to the Baths. I can add that at the top of the Baths area is a $$$ restaurant with unbelievable views and a cute gift shop as you'll probably want some souvenirs. My one piece of advise is when they suggest you go barefoot-don't! You will have to scamble around the edges of some rocks and stairways down to the boulders and it is slippery!! I went barefoot, am pretty fit and agile, but slipped anyway and broke a toe. I wish I had worn my tevas. Once you're all the way to the actual boulders, you can walk through the boulders barefoot maybe but it is slippery overall. You may also want to swim between the two beach sites so a bathing suit is a must. You definately don't have to climb any boulders, don't see how you could without equipment, but they aren't high at all, just HUGE. By all means, take Limnos as that way you can see some of Virgin Gorda itself which the other party boats don't have you do plus if you just swim in via the other boats, you might miss the trails through the boulders which you automatically get to do with the direction Limnos takes you. Biggest bang for the money and the snorkling at Norman Island on the way home to STJ was fantastic! Bring good tip $$ for the Limnos crew, they deserve it!

Is it necessary to make reservations for May? Also will it be more if I wait until I get there instead of using the internet?

There's no harm in making reservations in advance, better be safe than sorry. One problem in waiting till you get there might be phone service. Not all cell phones work (ours didn't), and not all pay phones work, so you may have to rely on someone (your hotel?) letting you use their phone to reach them. We just picked up the phone and called them after getting the phone # from their internet site. Very convenient, we did the same thing to book the Reef Bay Trail. I heard so many problems with local companies responding to email inquiries that I just plain called them and got an immediate, friendly response. $$$wise, I don't remember any internet deals, but as we've all said before, this is an expensive vacation destination and if you really HAVE to save a few bucks, you might want to rethink your trip. We pennypinch by camping at Concordia and just plain not choosing very high end restaurants to eat in all the time, otherwise, you will spend alot of money. Limnos was cheaper than the other charters to the Baths, but way more important to us, there was alot more room on the boat and we got to see some of Virgin Gorda including the Baths.

I understand this is a expensive destination but what is wrong with giving yourself a budget that you can live with and not go into credit card debt? Also why pay more for the same tour if possible. Some of the websites I visited for the islands say "THIS IS A INTERNET RATE ONLY"! Just wondering if anyone knew if Limnos did the same. I e-mailed them and they got back to me and told me it is $100 per person.

Also, are there no phones in the rooms on St. Thomas? I planned on bring my cell phone and it says I have service in the Virgin Islands but I will double check.

Found there wedsite. Limnos does not advertise their rate on the internet and they do require advance reservations. I was hoping to just wing it when I got there.

Hi Dawn,
I think you're smart to look for deals... it might be the only way that some can do such a vacation.
A little advise on cell phones though. Just because your cell phone company says you'll have service on STJ or any of the islands, doesn't mean you will. Service there is very iffy, so if using a phone is a must, have a backup plan!

I understand, I didn't mean to imply otherwise, but sometimes you might save a few bucks but enjoy yourself less and it's such a magical place, you'll want to make the most of it. I don't remember an internet deal, maybe it existed but I do know that we called them. We payed under $100 each, but also the $20 customs fee which every charter has to charge separately. Plus the tip to the staff.
Phones in the hotel rooms might run you alot of money, if they're anything like hotel phones on the mainland which charge you way, way too much money to use the phone. Now there's a place I'd be REALLY careful with my money !!! We got some kind of satellite roaming thing (*86 or something) but neither cell phone worked anyway. Luckily, the Concordia staff people let me use their office phone for free since I did have to call Limnos the day before to confirm our trip -which got postphoned a day due to lack of customers. So you might be able to wing it but will take the chance that so will alot of other people and you may miss the experience. We saw alot of people who tried to wing it for the Reef Bay Trail excursion on STJ and got turned away since they want reservations also.

Good thing you told me about the 1 day postponement of your trip. I was going to make our reservation for our last day there. I would be so upset if I didn't make it to the Baths, etc.
