Can anyone recommend the most economical option for getting 6 people (4 adults/2 kids) from the airport at St Thomas to St John? I've seen the taxi tariffs, but am wondering if you have 6 people if you can get a deal? Depending on this...I'm wondering if it's better to taxi to the ferry in Charlotte Amalie vs Redhook.

Last time (it was only 2 adults and 2 kids), we rented a car on STT and took the car ferry. The only problem is that we are going in late November...the STT car rental companies are charging high season car rental rates vs St John where some of the companies charge low season rates. So I don't see renting a car on STT and taking the car barge as an option.

Any ideas, comments, feedback? They would be much appreciated!!!

The Charlotte Amalie ferry only runs on a limited schedule, so if it doesn't work for your flight times, you maybe sitting around for an hour and or more so you can save money.

Actually there's really no savings taking the CA ferry versus RH. Ferry from CA to STJ longer and more expensive than RH/STJ, taxi fare to RH more expensive than to CA. Works out pretty evenly. Not likely you'll get any sort of a deal on 6 people but you could always enquire about a private taxi. If you go to "St Thomas" top of this page you can scroll down for the taxi rates and info on private taxis. Have fun!

We use Dohm's Water Taxi. They can arrange a taxi at the airport which is waiting for you. They load your luggage, drive to the dock where you get on a private water taxi to St. John. Its a little more expensive but you can't beat the convenience of it. Julie at Dohm's is awesome to work with. It works out to about $45 per person. We rent jeeps on St. John. L&L will pick you up at the dock. We know its more expensive but our vacation starts quicker and its so much nicer than the car barge or public ferry. Plus there is no charge for luggage.
