We are coming down Thanksgiving week with our 9 yr old and 5 yr old. Want to take a day trip. Which do you suggest? The Baths or Jost Van Dyke. These are from the Westin.

IMO...take the family to the Baths..the children will love crawling through the rocks and you will too ! many of these trips stop along the way to snorkel/pre Baths..it's really a nice day.there's a restaurant at the top of the Baths / with a pool that is for the public use. I love Jost..one of my personal favorites...but it is a more relax on the beach and sit at a bar, or two...heaven.. white bay is beautiful(we're staying there in april) but with a 5 & 9 yr old they might not want to do the same...there is a company on the beach that has watersports..jet skis, banana sled rides, inflatable boat rentals, water tramoline also atv & mnt. bike rentals..all would be appealing to the kids?? check site www.bviadventure.com - just thought if you really want jost, having some entertainment for the kids might help.

I've been to Jost and other than the wonderful Foxy's restaurant, there's nothing much to entertain kids with so I'd chose the Baths (which we'll finally be doing in 2 weeks for the first time!)

The baths for sure. Jost is more of a party place--way way laid back. Do a trip to the baths. you will needs passports. They will not forget the Baths!! Enjoy

I was told that a US citizen needs a passport to enter the BVI but I have not confirmed this via any official site as I do have a passport. However, I did want to mention that even US citizens need a birth certificate and photo ID to RETURN to the United States from the USVI. They are not needed to enter the USVI, just to return to the United States.

Hello

I deal with BVI customs almost every day, working on a sailboat. They stick to the rules with no exceptions. You need EITHER a passport OR your original birth certificate and a license. For children under 16, an original birth certificate is needed, no ID. HAVE FUN!!!

The only good a driver's license is for traveling is to get you on the plane. To get home you need at least an Certified birth certificate (copy won't do). A passport will get you through immigration faster.

To get into and out of the BVI I believe a certified birth certificate will work. To be on the safe side I'd recommend checking a BVI website that can give you the customs requirement.

A passport is the best proof of ID. They're easy to get. Pick up a appication at any post office. If you have time have your boyfriend get one before you go.

Michelle, thanks!! You just took a huge load off my back. We are leaving next Sat. Nov.5th and I want to go to Van Dyke for the day. We are staying at Maho Bay Camps. Do you work off a boat on St. John? Thanks again for all of your posts.

Hello Tamlyn,

The compliance date has been moved back from Dec. 31, 2005 to 2006 to allow a longer lead time for travelers to come into compliance with the requirements. I had posted more on this a few weeks back - here is the thread https://www.vinow.com/wwwtalk/read.php?4,42242,42242#msg-42242. Hope that helps :).
