has anyone used these things? I bought them today at Macys in the luggage section. They're plastic bags that you put your clothing into, then you squeeze the air out and they are supposed to get you lots of extra space in your suitcase.

Do they work? Will my clothes be wrinkled beyond repair? I paid $18 per box of 3 - and I bought 2 boxes. Are they worth it?

Thanks!

We've used them when traveling to Europe. In my opinion, they do save room, however the clothes did get wrinkled. Not wrinkled beyond repair though. I haven't used them since our last trip to Italy so you can tell I'm not too horribly impressed by them. I find by rolling my clothes I can save about the same amount of room.

I think they're terrible; we've had two different types - the kind you vacuum out and the kind you roll out. The vacuum ones only work if you have a vacuum at your destination - not something usually found in hotel rooms. The rolling kind tended to split on the seams and reinflate. I wasn't using the cheap ones either - these were "Space Bags".

Personally, I don't think they're worth the time or money. Just my opinion of course.

Glad to hear all this...I just bought some of those for our upcoming Hawaii trip....and to pack up child to move! He has to get as much as he can fit into his car, so I thought if I pack all the bedding & clothes in these bags, we could fit more stuff into his car....so we'll see!

I use them all the time - bought them on either HSN or QVC. We pack our underwear and swimsuits in them and sometimes t-shirts and jersey shorts, I like them for carry-on as they really save space and it's easier to root around in your bag with the clothes packed up like this. We just pack the stuff that won't wrinkle. Never had trouble with them splitting (yet) and I've used ours at least 8 times so far for travel. A friend of ours packs her bed pillow in one to take with her - she likes her own pillow best. We also pack away our sweaters and fleece tops in them at the end of the winter season are they are easier to store this way and you don't have to worry about moths or other little summer buggies getting in. They are great for extra blankets and comforters - much less room taken up in the closet.

I bought a couple of medium sized ones from the Rick Steves web site. They are great for sweaters going out. I do not use them for shirts because they tend to wrinkle them. Coming home they are great for the dirty clothes to make extra room for those bottles of brandy and schnapps.

Cheers, RickG

I use them and find them to be helpful (not fantastic, but good). I like that you save at least a bit of space, can move batches of clothes around easily while still being able to see inside, and can put dirties in one bag with clean in another. Any plastic bag could do some of those things, though. I have had them wear out, but they seemed to hold up fairly well overall. I will probably buy some more as my supply wears out, but will wait for a sale!

Don't forget. The more you put in your suitcase, THE MORE IT WEIGHS. Can get caught off guard when the airline needs more money for being overweight. Something to think about.

Blu,
I have used them for years and love them. However, I only put swimsuits, undergarments and things that don't wrinkle easily. I like them for security purposes also. You can see through them easily.

Thanks so much everyone - for your feedback on these bags. We'll give them a whirl and see how we like them. I just hope the wrinkles aren't too bad. Trying to get down to the VI with one carry-on each.

The packing bags brings to mind the foodsaver. We intend to use the foodsaver for all of our food. We use it at home and it's great!

Check into it.
