hav'nt heard to much about this place. I know it is not at the airport (you call for a shuttle). I would like to know how difficult this is, I was planning per bills advice to call, get the car, and pick up hubby with the bags after?? I got a jeep for 368.00 including taxes which seems like a good deal after shopping around. I leave next Tuesday...YEAH

Personally, I would not recommend them.(td) I have sent emails to their head office as to how they treat their customers. Just today at the airport an elderly couple waited nearly an hour for pick up. Once one of my guests was late getting in, so they rented her car that she reserved to someone else, and then ,made her take a more expensive car and pay the difference! Shortly after that, another guest I took to get their car after 5pm because they too had a delayed flight and although there were people still on premises, they were told they were closed and had to come back the next day. These two incidences I reported to the home office with no answer. I promised myself, whenever I see anyone ask about them, to let them know this so they won't have to suffer their ignorance.
Try Discount Car Rental or Best Car Rental. Much better service.

Call dependable. That's just about what I'm paying for a jeep in May. Nice people to work with. They'll pick you up at the airport and it's only a couple miles to their office. You sign the papers and then you're off.

Good luck, have a great time, relax and let the forum know how you made out...trip report!!

We have been traveling to St. Thomas for about ten years, always after Thanksgiving an sometimes in the spring. We live in St. Louis and leave at 6am and get in around 4:00 to 4:30, so we are tired and not in the mood to fool around. The only problem we ever encountered was them not wanting to pick us up until we had our luggage. This year for some reason we made a reservation with Budget, than we got an e-mail from Thrifty with a low rate that was good on the island, so we made a second reservation, but did not cancel with Budget. We called when we got in at 4:30, thinking my husband would go get the car and I would handle the baggage. They still would not come, called after we had baggage around 5 or so and guess what not answer, this after they had said they would wait for for us. After 2 more calls we walked up to Budget and rented our car and were out of there. Never ever will we even consider renting from them, I don't care what there price is they are not dependable. Listen to Ron he has much more experience with them, but our stories are similar.

Interesting....I was just about to post a message about Thrifty. We've rented from them for the past 3 or 4 years with no problems, in fact we've been up graded without asking or an extra charge. But....I went to the Thrifty web site this past weekend, and the Thrifty on STT is not giving out any rates (for Oct.) I've made reservations this early in the past. The web site also did not show a phone number, so I thought they may have closed. I've rented from Dependable, Discount, Hertz, and Budget et in the past, maybe I'll start shopping.

Thrifty is OK, but if your flight arrives late, which can happen often this time of year, then you will not get your car as they close at 5pm sharp! To ME, this is unacceptable!
So I agree with RonUSVI there. I disagree with him on discount or best, they are on my UN recommended list.
My personal favorite is Amalie Car Rental. The vehicles are clean, new, and most importantly, they are at the airport with your car AT the time of your arrival....no matter what time of day or night! Their service cannot be beat!
