Hello
Can anyone tell me is it worth doing any of the timeshare presentations? What kind of gifts do they give out and if it is a good idea, can you give me a list of what resorts to do ?

thanks

If I was actually considering buying a timeshare, I'd go. Otherwise I wouldn't. When I'm on vacation, I try to only do what I like doing. Listening to some guy try to sell me a timeshare isn't the kind of thing I'd enjoy doing on my vacation, no matter what kind of stuff he'd give me. He really couldn't pay me to do that. I'd rather be snorkeling.

If you have an hour or so to spare, go, get your coupons and take tours of the premisis. I own two timeshares but would never buy under a presentation circumstance. Only buy resale and never from a developer. They don't appreciate and aftermarket resales are everywhere for a dime on the dollar.

But if it's something you want to do, you can find the OPC's across from Emancipation Garden and they will approach you...Bluebeard's has the most presence, I think Magens Point is back out there, and TCI (just up Gov't Hill across from the Post Office) is out there again...and there is a new outfit, too, but I can't remember their name, and they have space in the Grand Galleria...all offer pretty much the same stuff: A free tour of the island, a 'free' vacation (no such thing as a 'free lunch', right?) and a bottle of rum. They all 'say' about an hour, but, in the seven and a half years I was in timeshare sales here, I would guess the avaerage is more along the lines of 90 minutes...more if they have any interest whatsoever. But, also due to my experience, I'd recommend that you not do it unless you truly have any interest, as the salespeople get paid commission and the 'professional gift-getters' only waste their time and energy, offering them no chance to earn a paycheck, ya know? Everyone's gotta eat! But, to each their own....

I have guests that bought a time share at Blue Beards and pay a lot more than if they rented a villa. Blue Beards has gone down hill, lets be honest! I was there twice this year with friends staying there and was quite surprised at the lack of care of the property. There is a lot of politics going on over the property from what I understand. I will e-mail my friends and find out exactly what their feelings are and maybe they will even join in on the conversation! No better person to reach out to than one who has actually bought their time share there! Blue Beards does have 2 wonderful restaurants there and like Marty said the free shuttle to other places! Not far from town either! Just make sure you make the right decision for YOU! 🙂

Hi Sherri
We will be there in two weeks.
Barbara, I would not go to the sales presentation just to get the gifts. Marty is right, you'll just waste their time and yours. The only good thing about a time share is it locks you into going on vacation each year. (Some people say I'm a workaholic). I'm sure everyone has a different opinion about their time share, but our experience at Blue Beard's has been less than enjoyable. Our yearly maintenance fees have doubled in the past 6 years from $450 to $900 per year. We have little or no input on the maintenance and upkeep on the property. Plus you're out the initial investment of ten to twenty thousand dollars. You also loose a certain amount of flexibility about when you go on vacation. The really good thing about it is you have already spent the money, so you would be crazy not to go to the greatest place on Earth. And if you are really lucky you can make good friends with someone from St Thomas and look forward to seeing them again each year.
