Hello, First time visiting St. Thomas for 6 days, any fun places you recommend within a reasonable budget...Love beach areas, adventure, good food, and possibly night life. We are not planning to rent a car. Thanks!

How many people are going? Taxi fares can really add up...

Jackie: I always see Margaritaville people in Red Hook. Lots of great restaurants and bars. You might consider renting a car for at least a couple of days to give you freedom to explore the island. Taxis are very expensive (per person rates) and won't go some places you might want to visit.

Depending on the number of people in your group, if you want to see something other than Margaritaville, it will be cheaper to rent a car. I recommend Dependable. If you rent from a car rental place in the airport, you will pay more as they tack on an airport fee and sometimes your "reserved" car is just not there! As noted, taxis are per person. You can catch a "dollar taxi" by walking from Margaritaville out the driveway to the main road and get to Red Hook that way, but you'll have to pay a regular taxi cab (maybe $6-7 per person for the ride back) from Red Hook. Lots of cool bars in Red Hook (Duffy's and Island Time are my favorites) and you can catch the ferry from there to St John, although there's not much to see in Cruz Bay when you get off the boat, so again, you'll be paying lots in taxi fare on St John to get you to a decent beach like Cinnamon Bay or Hawk's Nest.
If you are just looking for the beach and a cheap vacation, stay right at Margaritaville and walk to Coki Beach. Both places have food/drinks that you can buy. There's also a little store at the corner of the main road and the road that leads down to Coki Beach where you can buy soda/beer/chips, etc. You really can't walk many places by being on the main road as there are no sidewalks and drivers aren't watching out for pedestrians. Enjoy!

By the time 2 people take a taxi twice, you can pay for a car rental for the day, go where you please, whenever you please.

Dependable also gets my vote and they let you take car over to STJ on barge so you can explore that island without paying big bucks for taxi fees and waiting for them to get you and everyone else they're carrying to the various destinations at their convenience.

There is also a car rental at Sapphire Beach, which is just down the road from Margarettaville
