I am ready to purchase my trip insurance but I would like to hear from folks that have had to use their trip insurance. I'm interested in their experiences dealing with the insurance company and anything they would or wouldn't do differently.

Thank you!!!

Island bound in 15 days!!! YAY

I purchased from CSA. We had to leave our trip 4 days early do to my Mother getting sick, blood clots in her lungs which ended up as a 14 day hospital stay.

They were great on the phone with us and helping getting us home, but after coming home, the paperwork we've had to fill out and the delays have been in a pain in the butt.

Some of the forms they need:

Power of Attorney so that the hospital and doctor can release her records. Even though I have power of attorney, the hospital won't release the records until I get an updated one. I'm doing that today.

Even after I received an email confirming that I left the condo 4 nights early, with the cost of my loss, they wanted the phone number of the owner so they could call her. Whatever go ahead.

They wanted the original cancelled check that we paid for the condo. Come on! We paid for it!

They wanted a copy of our master card bill for the airfare. I don't know why they care what we paid for the original airfare. We're only trying get reimbursed for our flight back. Husband had go back to our 2010 bills to find it.

They wanted the original contract for the condo. Had that.

Anyway, the only thing that I can suggest to you that you save EVERYTHING.

We purchased CSA insurance for our trip last summer 2010. On our return trip, our flight was delayed because a hurricane had just passed by
Fort Lauderdale, causing us to miss our connecting flight to LAX. There were no available flights until 2 days later. While other passengers were yelling and screaming (to no avail) at Spirit Air employees, we rented a van, got 2 rooms at the Hyatt, and the next 2 days we had an extended vacation at the
Florida Keys.

We saved all of our bills: hotel, car rentals, gasoline, food (reasonable). On our return, I got on their website, fill out 2 page standard form and sent back with copies of all receipts.

We got paid in full within 10 days, no question asked.

Guess what I just did this afternoon: purchased trip insurance for our European trip next summer.

Have a great time.

Our trip was just this past June (2011).

I believe I'm having more trouble with CSA is because it's a health matter and it wasn't myself or my husband...my Mother.
