At 8:40 A.M. on Wednesday, April 12th my fiance and I left home for our favorite place: St. John. We flew on US Airways through Charlotte. At 3:00 we finally arrived in St. Thomas. We had to wait an hour to get our car from Avis. On top of that, the price they gave me was $35. higher than the quote I received when I booked it. For 10 days it was $337.51 for a Ford TAURUS. The car was a non smoking vehicle and only had around 1400 miles on it. We arrived in Red Hook and took the 5:30 car barge to Cruz Bay. By the time we arrived on St. John it was dark. We drove to our accomodation: The Serendip. Serendip is a grouping of studio and one bedroom individually owned condos. Originally we wanted to stay at the Westin, but the over $600. per night price they quoted me was way beyond our budget. We stayed in the Delta. A one bedroom unit for 9 glorious nights. It is 5 minutes from the Westin. On Thursday (Day 1) we had planned on renting a Dingy from Noah's Little Arks in Wharfside Village. We awoke to clouds and more clouds. We called Noah's to switch our reservation to Friday. We spent the morning sitting on our very large porch with a view of Cruz bay including St. Thomas and Jost Van Dyke. Around noon we got in the car and drove through town to the North shore road to see the best beaches in the world. The sun began to peek out so we headed to Leinster Bay and snorkeled Waterlemon Cay. On the way back to the condo, we stopped at Hawksnest beach to take a dip. We purchased a lot of food at the Starfish Market because our unit had a full kitchen. After dinner and an episode of Law and Order SVU, we headed for bed. (Day 2): Friday we had planned on starting our 8 dive package with Low Key Watersports. We woke up to rain and more rain. It was so bad we couldn't see St.Thomas or even Cruz Bay due to the clouds and rain. We called Low Key to start Saturday instead.
Around noon it began to clear up so we went to Wharfside and picked up our 14 foot dingy. We had it from 1:00 to 5:00. The cost was $95. for 4 hours. We packed a cooler and headed out. We motored to Leinster Bay and then turned around to start our way back. We stopped at Peter Bay, Denis Bay and Honeymoon Bay.(Day 3) Saturday:
Did a 2 tank dive at 8:00 AM with LowKey. Ellen from Low Key was our dive partner. Ellen really knows her stuff. Our first 2 dives were a complete success. In the afternoon we browsed around Cruz Bay and Mongoose Junction.(Day 4) Easter Sunday: We took the car barge to St.Thomas. Our first stop was Megans Bay. Then we went and checked out the old Renaissance Grande Beach Resort, Sugar Bay and then wound up at the Sapphire Beach Resort for their semi famous Sunday beach party. The band was really great and the place was packed. We took the 6:30 barge back to St, John and had dinner at Cafe Roma. They sure give you a lot of food. We both had Veal Parm.
