This the last and probably most boring part of my trip report.... 🙁 I wish it went on and on.....

Monday, 2/19
Today we decided we were going to explore STT. Before we left, we made another phone call to our on-island contact about the AC. At this point, we have given up on the hot water knob. At least we had the wrench. He said, "oh, it hasn't been fixed yet??" Um.... No, it hasn't.....

We headed out toward Megan's Bay when we realize that we don't have any cash for the admission fee. Oops. Of course there are no ATM's around so if you're going, remember cash!! We see what we can from the overlooks and then head down to Charlotte Amalie. We found a parking spot way down past the shops and the banks, but at least we found one. Stopped at the Tree House and had 2-for-1 Margaritas and lunch. I had the Ruben which was awesome, and Mike had the taco salad. He liked it, but it was a little dry. He asked for dressing twice, and never got it. Oh well.

After lunch we hit the jewelery stores. I was looking for Hibiscus earrings for my mother (to thank her for finding our luggage!) but it took me forever to find a pair that weren't too big. I finally found them at Regency Jewelers (14k for $59). I hope she likes them, took me long enough to find them. 🙂 I found a pair in sterling for myself and a pair of Caribbean topaz earrings for Mike's mother. When we were done shopping, we went back to Sapphire and hit the beach and the pool.

For dinner we went back to the Caribbean Saloon and our second meal there was just as good, and we had the same awesome server, Shay. She remembered us and remembered our drinks. After dinner we finished up shopping at Dolphin Dreams and went back to the condo. This time when we returned, the AC was fixed!! And the hot water knob was too. After being back in the condo for about a 1/2 hour, we start to smell something, and heard a hissing sound.... Turns out the AC compressor has a leak and we have to turn it off. UGH!!! This is the last night, so what can we do?? It is cool enough that I can sleep in the bed on the last night.

Tuesday 2/20
Today is the day we have to go home. 🙁 We get up and shower using the new hot water knob. After packing up all of our stuff (including our lovely Kmart clothes) we go to Molly Molone's for breakfast. At this point, it had started raining.... Our lovely Jeep that we waited over 2 hours for at the Budget counter the previous Tuesday had no windows-- at all. By the time we drove the short way from Sapphire to Red Hook, we were soaked. Thankfully we found a parking spot underneath in the garage.

Mike got the same thing that he got the last time- the St. Thomas omelet and I got the breakfast that had 2 of everything (I forget what it's called). I'm a Gemini so I can rarely make a decision so this is perfect for me. It was National Pancake Day so I was looking forward to my 2 pancakes, but I think they were frozen so I was a bit disappointed.

We waited for the rain to let up a bit before we left and headed back to Sapphire. We got the rest of our things together and packed up the Jeep for the ride to the airport. It isn't raining now, but of course as soon as we get in the Jeep to go, it starts down pouring again! By the time we got to TuTu to return a couple things at KMart, we were both completely soaked again, as was our luggage- no back window either.

We arrive at the airport, drop of the Jeep and check in at US Air. That all goes smoothly, as does our trip through customs. We stand in line to grab a snack for the flight at the snack bar and Mike's phone rings- it is American Airlines asking if we ever got our luggage! He said, "yes, with no help from you" and hangs up on them. At that point all we could do was laugh.

We have our snacks and sit down for a few before we have to board the flight home. Good bye USVI!!

Just a little icing on the cake- when we arrive back at Logan at about 11:30pm, we can't find the car. My parents dropped it off for us on Monday afternoon and my mother gave me very explicit instructions about where it was. I was so over-tired and wiped out that I couldn't even find central parking. We ended up finding it in the end (right where mom said it was) but not before I called and woke her up. Sorry mom. We arrived home about 1:15am and I was back at work on Wednesday morning. Oh well.....

Just a few tips:
-If you have to go to the Emergency Room, go in the middle of the night, it isn't very crowded then
-Don't switch airlines in the middle of a snow storm- you'll be lucky if you get your luggage before it is time to return home
-Do the day cruise on New Horizons II- it was well worth the $110 per person (after $50 coupon) plus 20% tip
-Ask the rental car if there are windows for the Jeep if you are renting one
-Stay left- I almost got us killed on the way to the airport (you'd think after a week of driving with no issues, I'd be used to it)

Thanks to everyone for all of your great recommendations!! Mike was getting so sick of me saying, "the message board said....." Until next time....

We're renting 2 wranglers from Budget. I'm just wondering why in the world they wouldn't have windows in them??? Jeeps, or course, have plastic windows, but it gives you some kind of protection from the rain.

Connie- I have no idea.... We didn't even think to look for windows or ask for them. We assumed that they'd be there if we needed them and of course, we didn't expect to!

Sorry to hear about your trouble with the jeep but quick question......... where did you get the coupon $50 for the NHII? I was debating on using them or going alone so if you can help with that information that would be great.....

thanks

Sorry you had some problems, but I'm sure the beautiful islands, water and sand was worth it!

So do you have snow at home? 😀

barbara dean-

I thought I answered this but I guess not. Sorry. The coupon came from the Budget coupon book. As the reps at the Budget counter for one before you leave the airport and see if they give it to you. Can't hurt to ask. It says that you need to show your Budget key and rental contract, but we didn't need to. I just told the woman on the phone that I had the coupon and I gave it to Chad when I paid.

Thank you, New Englander, for your detailed trip report. You didn't have a perfect trip, but it sounds like you made the best of it. You made some very good suggestions, too. You should have put your mother on the condo problems. She would have gotten that knob and air conditioned fixed : )

Really good trip report...thanks for taking the time to include lots of details. We are going in late May. The "take home message" for me is to be sure I have as much "important stuff" as possible in our carry-ons! I am going to re-evaluate my list!

The coupon said $50 off per couple- I don't recall if there were any restrictions. There was also the same coupon for Breakaway, which is owned by the same company. The woman on the phone said I could use either coupon, but I don't know if I could have used both if there were 4 in my party. You could probably call them- 800-808-7604.
