I am fortunate to be flying to st. croix next week to interview for a job with uvi. I am very interested in the position and am excited by the possibility of movong to the vi but have had no time to plan anything - the position starts in January. I will be in stt/stx for two days interviewing, then my husband is joining me Dec 2 - 7 to check the place out.

We have no idea of where to stay or what's the best way to get a feel for the place to see if we really want to move there. I've lived in Haiti before so I am familiar with the unpredictable life of the Caribbean - but my poor husband has no clue.

Any suggestions for reasonable places to stay from Dec 2-7? We don't have tons of money because we weren't planning to do this. While we're looking for a value I don't want to stay anyplace that might turn my husband off from the move. We're also planning to rent a car so we can get around a bit. The information on this board has been very helpful - thought I'd jump on in...

If you are interested. It is a charming 1-bedroom condo villa in West Indian Style cottages on the East End of St. Croix. The villa includes full size kitchen, king-size bed, spacious living room and dinning area with beautiful island furnishings. This villa is centrally located just five minutes east of “Christiansted” the main town with supermarkets, delis, bank, post office, and laundromat with drop-off service. Also the Villa is approximately 10 to 15 minutes west of the Casino Resort depending on the route you choose. The local favorite restaurant, cheeseburgers in paradise is within walking distance along with other restaurants and beaches less than a quarter mile away from the property. The Villa can occupy a max of 4 adults. The amenities include cable TV, CD and stereo, air conditioner and ceiling fan, local telephone, sofa bed, and swimming pool. The view overlooking the private balcony offers a beautiful tropical garden and a large pool deck area with three gazebos provides a relaxing setting in which you can relax under the gorgeous Caribbean sun or the dazzling moon and stars. It's the perfect base for a great vacation where the eastern ocean breeze beckons from beyond.

You might look into Hotel on the Cay, Hotel Caravelle, Tamarind Reef, the Hibiscus or even the Buccaneer. All these hotels are centrally located, so it will be easy to get around. Nightly rates will be between $100 and $200 per night.

Good luck.

Check out stxdd's rental. I am familiar with these condo's and it will give you a more residentail feel than a hotel or even a b&b.

Nice units, not fancy, but clean and well maintained. Most of the people their are local residents or longer time winterbirds.
