Is there any verizon wireless coverage in St. J's? or can I tell my husband to leave the phone at home!

NO. We took our verizon phones last time down and they worked in STT but forget about STJ! Not even "Rome" over there!

Ironically enough, my cell phone, which by the way is called a "dinosaur" by the younger crowd, works fine in St. John. It is not an open/close style, just push buttons and go. I have Verizon as well, and have no problem using it...especially in Cruz Bay. The unfortunate thing is my bill the month after because everyone uses mine to check in at home. Depending on your home commitments, I would suggest leaving any phones at home if you can.

Verison works fine in Cruz Bay area. However, watch the roaming charges.

I was there 10th - 16th and my Verixon worked fine. On the east end of St. John no signal but who cares, we were in the water there, in Cruz Bay and full signal all the time.

I have Verizon and everytime we go on a trip, prior to leaving, I always update my phone's capabilities. Have you tried this? It's *228 send. What that does is update your phone so that it is connected to every new/existing tower satalite available. It's always worked really well for me. Whenever traveling with family to various places, my phone is always the one to work the best. Of course there is a drawback with this...everyone now wants to use your phone and oh that roaming! For those of you with Verizon, try this next time.

Chirs,do you pay for this update? We're still debating whether to bring our phones just to stay in touch for emergency reasons with our kids but others have said just get a phone card. Oh the decisions.....

How bad are the roaming charges? What are we talking about per minute?

I believe the roaming are about .60 per minutes. I use the phone only to receive incoming calls as the business phone is call forwarded and never take the phone with me but leave in our condo. I can see if calls came in and than check the messages by calling with a calling card. If I didn't have the calls forwarded I would use the CALLING CARD only.

Just got back late last night. My Verizon phone worked fine in STT, but spotty in STJ. It was on roaming from the time we left Atlanta airport, I asked before we left about charges .67 min plus access fees, but they were unable to tell me what the access fees would run. We used the phone only for emergencies and to tell what time it was! Used calling cards to phone home. Enjoy your trip.
