Hey Guys,

I need some help. I am currently a college student at Clemson University in South Carolina. I am looking at doing an internship in the Virgin Islands for the summer with a construction company. My school requires us to do two summers of internship but they don’t help us out when trying to find a company. I am interested in interning in STT or STX, just because the population is a little higher making business a little bit better.

What I need help doing is finding a construction company (commercial or residential). I have searched on the web and am having trouble finding one. The only one I could find was Roy’s Construction, which seems pretty legit but they might not be hiring for an internship.

If we could get a list going of construction companies in the area, I would appreciate it greatly.

I can't speak too much for STT or STX, but on STJ the construction business has been pretty rough. The money people used to have to build they just don't have any more. My finacee has been a builder for 20 years (on STJ) and spent almost the entire last year out of work. He recently decided to scrap it and is now an journeyman electrician. It is hard to get a job here unless you are actually here. A lot of it has to do with being at the right place at the right time. What specific area of construction are you interested in? I can check the phone book for you and see what I can see.

I was looking at getting into a little commercial big companies. In the states there's always that one or two construction companies that are really big.... does anyone know anymore??

I have seen ALL and will consider giving them a buzz.

kkozelzer,
What you need to know is if there are any hotels currently under construction on island. Find the name of the general contractor than contact them. It is my understanding most of the larger companies doing this type of heavy construction would come in from off island. I know there is a company in Miami which does alot of island work, can't recall the name but it's somewhere on this board

I answered your query on another forum but was under the impression that you had already been offered an internship here. Obviously I misunderstood! It is VERY hard to find anything on island unless you're physically here. I directed you to the relocation forum on this site to research what living here is all about and you really should hop over there (see "Visit Relocation Message Board" top right this page.) This is a visitor's forum and although some regular posters do dance between the two forums, the relocation forum is where you should be researching.

You can check out listings of local construction companies via the local telephone book at www.viphonebook.com. Cheers!
