Hi there. My friend and I have decided to come down to the VI's for 5-day girls' trip over Carnival weekend. We are flying in and out of St Thomas and thought we'd stay there as a homebase. Maybe day trips to St John and/or Virgin Gorda. Overall, we are looking for beach time, but also some variety for nightlife and touristy options. We are single and in our 30's, so we'd like to avoid places that are focused primarily on couples and kids. We need help on a place to stay. Based on reviews, we're thinking about Wyndham Sugar Bay, Secret Harbour or Pt Pleasant. Recommendations? Or would we be better off heading over to St John?

Thanks for your help!

To avoid couples and kids, avoid the Wyndham. They have a "Kid's Club" thing that'll annoy the heck out of you, if you aren't a 'kd' person (like me). Kind of tough to avoid couples here, as it's mostly a couples destination...but there's plenty of nightlife here, don't get me wrong. As for a place to stay, of the 3 you mentioned, SH is the best, IMHO. It's also close to Red Hook, so you will be close to some good nightlife (Duffy's, Caribbean Saloon, Molly Malone's, XO Bistro, The Warehouse, etc.). Not AT the resort, mind you, as SH is pretty quiet. Sapphire Beach Rsort comes to mind as a good recommendation for you two, but, since they've been having so many issues lately, SH is probably your best bet.

Marty's suggestions are right on. Would add that I think STJ would be too quiet for your needs! Just visit! 🙂

Thanks so much for the advice!

It's not that we don't like kids -- love them. Just not what we are looking for on our vacation. We talked about it more last night and Secret Harbour is the way we are leaning. Sounds like a great mix of quiet at the hotel and near what we'd want to do for activities.

After doing more research on VG and STJ, I am really pulling for at least a day trip to VG now. It looks absolutely incredible!

Getting really excited now! Thanks again. I'll be sure to post a trip report after we return. 🙂

We stayed at Secret Harbour last April and had a great time. Very quiet and relaxing, but as mentioned before, close to Red Hook and some decent night life. Stop at the grocery store on the way there and pick up some supplies (food and booze). We rented a car and found it a great benefit. The water at SH is very calm and the snorkeling isn’t bad. We took a day and took the ferry to St. John, went to Trunk Bay, and that was nice but for us St. Thomas suited us better. We also took a sailboat snorkeling cruise, which was nice too.

We are staying a SH in April, and all the reviews (well - 98%) were positive. What is the name of the store on the way to SH? I wish I had some sort of map that had stores and restaurants labeled! that would be cool.

The only thing negative I can recall anyone saying about SH was the time someone was robbed at gunpoint a couple years ago. A family member is a poster on this forum. If I remember correctly, it happened at several other locations around the same time also. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Everyone that I know personally who has been to STT says that SH is really a nice place to stay. I'm getting pumped now - a little more than 3 months to go! Got to start getting in the tanning bed as I've heard the sun is really harsh in April.

Cheery O-
I was just reading your recent post about visiting VG for the day. By all means, GO!!! Family and I rented a home on the beach awhile back and it was awesome. We were able to snorkel right in front of the villa. The Baths are fun, but I feel there are better places to visit. We stayed in the Mahoe Bay area...try that for a visit.
VG is a BEAUTIFUL place. I have been to many islands and this one is at the top of my list.
Have fun!

Mountaineer girl, it's just called Food Center and you'll see it before you get to Secret Harbour. If you are interested, here's my trip report from last year. I damn near cried when I just re-read it because I wish we were going back. This year we are going to the Bahamas. Anyway here's the link https://www.vinow.com/wwwtalk/read.php?4,53572,53572#msg-53572 and if that doesn't work, just do a search for my posts and look for the trip report one.
Cheers,
