Hi,

I am looking for a nice yet fairly inexpensive villa in St.John for 2 people. I don't care so much where it is as we will rent a jeep. We have never been and the options seem endless- any suggestions? Particularly- if you have stayed at a 1 br. villa or condo that you really liked and found to be very clean please recommend. Also, we would be going in First week in August- so I'm hoping I can be a little more choosy since this is the low season.

Thanks!!!

stay away from Sunset Ridge Villas. Not that you would rent one for only 2 people because they can sleep about 8 but just in case.....they are definitely not clean!! Good luck!

inexpensive is a relative term and hard to find on stj but cloud nine villas has a couple of the nicest "lower" priced villas we have seen. go to http://www.cloud9villas.com and check out palmello, a 2 bedroom villa with hot tub and fairly decent western views and Gardenia, a large garden view studio below palmello with own hot tub. convenient south shore rd location. have looked at palmello while owner in residence when we stayed one night a couple yrs ago at gardenia before moving to moonsong (which was not available the day we arrived). both clean well maintained and equipped. if you can spend a little more, moonsong is really neat, great views of hart bay and on to stx, pillsbury sound and stt and you can hear surf, quite sootheing.

macy appel is resident property manager of c9 villas and is a pleasure to do business with. while we have never been to stj in august, have found warm on couple of october trips and ac will be needed unless you are very high in the hills. all 3 of the mentioned villas (if an effeciency qualifies as such) have full ac. happy hunting.

I cannot recommend Rosebay, just outside of Cruz Bay, because I have not stayed there yet. I am staying there with my wife in June, and after our trip I will post with information about how it worked out. I have not seen much info posted about that particular house, but many said carribeanvillas.com was a reputable organization so I am confident Rosebay will work out for us. It is one of the more economical houses for rent.

There is another interesting looking property that is pretty economical. It is called Crow's Nest, and it is right in Cruz Bay. Here is a link:

I have not stayed there, either, but again, some on this board recommended it to me. If the link does not work, just google "Crow's Nest St. John" and it will come up.

Good luck.

My wife and I rented Sea Wing over in Coral Bay last year which was rather inexpensive but fairly well appointed and had beautiful views.

Rented through windspree.com

Island Dreams and St. John Livin over in Coral Bay are also brand new 1 bedroom villas which have gotten pretty good reviews and look very nice.

Gotta add my 2 cents. My wife and I stayed at Sea Spirit (www.vi-villas.com/sea-spirit/index.htm) in Oct. This is a one bdrm villa with a loft that is on the Coral Bay end of the island (which is my favorite part). The villa is about 1/2 mile off of Salt Pond Road (route 107?), is surrounded by water and national park, total privacy, fantastic views. Bdrm has A/C, fans in living area. The villa is owned by a super nice lady. I thought the rate for a week was reasonable, not cheap, but reasonable for the location. Close to some really nice beaches that were usually deserted when we were there. For two people, it is just about ideal. PM me if you would like more info. The web site that I listed does a good job of representing the villa.
I would go back to it in a NY minute.

If you're looking for golf, St. John isn't the place to go. Nowhere to put a golf course. I do believe there is a small course on St. Thomas, but in general the USVIs are not a golfer's paradise.

There was a link a few months ago where folks recommended villas for my brother's honeymoon. I remember Meritage Cottage on that list. Let me go see what the others were.

I've always liked SeaGrape, but I've never stayed there. It just seems like a nice place for a romantic getaway.

I always thought Sail View or Snails Pace were both cute and cozy for 2 people. Also, I think there is a brand new villa called Blue Caribe that might also work for you. Check them out.

We have stayed at Villa Cielomar which is walking distance to Cruz Bay just up beyond Gallows Point at Frank's Bay. Here is their website:

Good luck!

We stayed at "Livin'" and we were very pleased with it. The views are great. It is a nice villa for 2.

To answer R. Mills,

Have you considered St Croix? There are two great golf courses there--one at the Carambola resort designed by Robert Trent Jones and the other at the Buccaneer resort. Both are supposed to be excellent. Villas are available all over the island and definitely near the golf courses.

Enjoy your trip wherever you end up going!
