How does the security deposit work on a Villa? Do they actually cash your check upon receipt and hold that much money? Our villa rental company wants $1,000.00 security deposit. That sure seems like a lot of cash to withold form me for a 1 week rental for a family of 4 and a $2k/wk property. How long would it take for me to get the deposit returned after the rental?

I believe that the "security deposit" is deducted from the final cost of the villa. So you would owe the final amount minus the paid security deposit. If I remember, I read your previous post about renting from destination st. John. I'm also renting for a week this summer from them. If I am wrong about the security deposit, please (somebody) let us know!

Was in a villa on STJ through McLaughlin Anderson recently, and here was my experience, only one datapoint, YMMV.

1 - Yes, they cash the check for your deposit. We paid the deposit via check and put the rental on a credit card. Due 45 or 60 days prior to arrival (forgot exactly how long).

2 - We checked out on 4/17 and got our deposit back, via check, in the mail yesterday.
