Will be coming to ST. Thomas for the first time in four years. Last time was by boat and didn't get much time on the island. Will be staying for a week starting 6/18/11. Very excited! How's the weather this time of year? Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated for our visit. Total of 10 of us coming.

Thank You

First, where are you staying & what are your interests?

The weather in June is great.

A car rental is a must.

We will be staying at Maison Flamboyant, a private house. What about the bugs, are there alot of bugs in June? We love the water and shopping. Jet ski's, volleyball, and beaches. Have heard some stories that the crime is bad. Never seen any first time we were there though. I appreciate your info. Thanks bunches!

Naturally, you'll want to use mosquito repellent. Newcomers to the island are often bothered by the pests. You may see a cockroach or two, but you'll only notice if there are no roaches where you live.

The crime is mostly between the locals, but you should avoid dark parts of town the same as you would anywhere.

A fun outing would be to catch the Ferry from Red Hook to Cruz Bay on St. John. There are a lot of fun shops there, and a small museum and visitor center. And, while you're in Red Hook, stroll down the docks at American Yacht Harbor. You might be able to get a last-minute deal on a day sail from one of the catamaran's on the dock.

Have a fabulous time.

Stroy, St Thomas and the VI's are superb. We rented a villa and absolutely loved it. As for what to do, I suggest those in your party go to this site and several other VI forums such as trip advisor forums and read, read, read. There are some truly insightful people on these sights. Find out all you can about the island(s) and then you can get specific questions answered such as "Is duffy's a good spot to eat for lunch?"
The answer is yes, by the way.
The search engines will be big help for you as well.
And YES, you need to rent a car or two to get around. Not sure if you can get a van for 10 or if you'd even want a vehicle that big on some of the streets. Driving in STT is somewhat scary, but good drivers will adapt quickly and enjoy driving around.

Good luck on your search and enjoy
