Coming to Water Island in 2 weeks and staying at a friend's house. A VERY LOOOONG overdue vacation and first time to the carribean. Just wondering if there are any inside pointers - weather? bugs?

Also, looking to rent sea kayaks for the week I am there ... suggestions?

Any thoughts/ideas/insights are totally appreciated.

Hello Moptop,

The weather will be hot. July, August, September are some of the hotest months here... a bit humid. High 80's and low 90's.

Depending on the location of your friend's place... close to the beach, up on a hill, really well ventilated... you might or might not have say mosquitos. Usually you will have them outside - so you might pick up some off if you want to bbq in the evenings or sit outside in the night at the house.

You might check out the bulletin board in Phillips Landing on Water Island (where the ferry comes in) and see what Pirates Ridge is having as specials and eat there a couple nights. Also see whats up with Heidi's Honeymoon Grill you can head to that also - its usually on weekends only.

Not sure where you can rent kayaks to take to Water Island. Find out if you friend has any at their place??

To rent a kayak, try West Indies Windsurfing on STT. They do weekly rentals.

I second the Heidi's Honeymoon grill suggestion. My understanding is that it is only on Saturdays. Tasty food and a great setting.
