I am getting married in STJ in May'06. This will be my first time to the usvi. We are renting a house with our parents and sibling (there will be 10 of us). We rented the house 7 nights. Everyone else is leaving then but my fiance and I will be staying a few more days at a resort. Should we stay in STJ or go to STT? What is a good resort to stay at? Does anyone have any advise for us? Good restaurants, things to do, day trips, shopping, best beaches, etc...???? We are planning to rent 2 cars for the entire trip, is this to much?? I appreciate any input!!!

Hello April,

I think you will need the two cars for 10 people. You could get rid of one of them when its just the 2 of you. Its good that you'll have the cars (tu). A daysail would be a nice trip for your group. Nice beaches; Hawksnest, Trunk Bay, Caneel Bay, Honeymoon, Cinnamon Bay, Maho Bay... might seem like I am naming all of them 😀 that's because they are all great. How about diving; http://www.6paqscuba.com. A hiking trip with the National Park service of Reef Bay trail. Snorkeling is lots of fun. Cruz Bay has very neat shops so you can spend a few hours browsing from one shop to the next; St. John Spice is a nice one for picking up souvenirs.

I guess it depends what you're looking for. If I were to choose where to stay after being in a villa for a week it would probably be Estate Lindholm. We have stayed there when we arrive on island and can't get into our villa yet. I've seen many honeymooning couples there as well as those of us who are on 'honeymoons' just being on St. John.

If the budget is not an issue, I'd also suggest Caneel. It's a special place and I'm sure you won't be ready to leave St. John after only 1 week.

What a great place to get married! How did you decide to make yours a destination wedding? How great to have the whole family there in this special place to celebrate your wedding!!

We decided on a destination wedding b/c neither of our parents would help us out too much financially for a reception and in Chicago they are very expensive for anything decent. We decided that if we were going to use our own money we would do what we want and that was to get married on a beautiful beach. Funny our parents were willing to come and spend the money on this!! I dont know what made me choose STJ, but I've always heard it was beautiful and it is US owned so when we went online and looked at pictures we fell in love with it!! Thanks for the advice!

You sound like a very smart girl to me. You've chosen wisely. What house are you staying at?

We tried to talk our daughter into a simple wedding on the beach in St. John but she insisted on having in at home. We told her to keep it very small and we'd send them on their honeymoon to St. John. They have been going down every year since. What a great place to celebrate anniveraries.

My husband and I usually celebrate our anniverary (May 10) on St. John (this year was our 42nd). This year we missed because our daughter presented us with a little granddaughter so it was worth missing one year.

Oh, about the cars. Yes, again you're so smart, you'll need at least 2 cars with a group that size. Actually you may even need 3.

We are staying at the CoCo De Mar. After we chose the house I read in a magazine that some soap stars (I forget who b/c I dont watch them) rented this villa and had their reception there.

That helped relieve some of my worries of the villa- I'm sure they went there and checked it out first and found it was a good villa. I always worry with renting a villa b/c pictures can be deceiving. I've always had good luck in the past though. This house was one of the most highly reccomended by all the websited I checked and by my travel agent. I would be so disappointed if the villa wasn't as luxurious as they said!
