Hello,

I'm in the process of planning a "destination" wedding. My fiance and I are hoping to find a place where ~50 of our family/friends can gather to have an extended wedding celebration together ...~3-4 days. We are considering Hawaii, but we've been there several times already (we live in Seattle). We'd like to try something new, but are a little bit nervous about what we might find choosing something "site unseen".

I've just started investigating the USVI and it seems like St. John would be on pace with what we'd like...something laid back where we can all hang out, eat, drink, enjoy our surroundings and more importantly, each other. We're thinking of an October date. I'm a little nervous about the weather (though I've read several of your postings and it seems like maybe it's not so bad at that time).

I'd like something really easy without a lot of wedding coordination necessary. So I've looked into the Westin and Caneel Resort, b/c both offer onsite wedding ceremonies and receptions. Are there other places I should be considering?

Any tips would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Molly -

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! You will find many postings on these boards from people who have married on St John - both as destination weddings and as cruise port-of-call weddings. Utilize the "Search" feature for "wedding" and you'll find the postings.

We married at Hawksnest beach (St John) as a cruise port-of-call in March but only had about 20 total there. You don't have to stay at a resort to have the wedding of your dreams - you can always rent a villa (or several villas). Or, let your guests stay on St Thomas and travel to St John for the wedding! 🙂

Here is a link to the review of my wedding that I wrote. I did use a local wedding coordinator and have included links/names to all vendors in the review (photographer, videographer, minster, etc).

Have fun with your planning!! It is truly the best place in the world to marry... and look forward to returning to!

Molly,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

My husband and I married on St. John last February. Our one year anniversary was yesterday.

Please feel free to email me with any questions. I will gladly share our incredible experience (also site unseen until we arrived), but the most wonderful wedding anyone could have had.

Best Wishes,
Missy

Weather in October - my first month of actaully living on St.Thomas was this past October. For what it's worth, it was warm and dry and a little more humid than it is now. As a realtive newcomer to living here, I would note that, yes it does rain, but usally comes and goes without lingering too very long......unlike the days and days of grayness that I was used to from living in Chicago most of my working life.

St.John is also a perfect choice for a group of people to have a really great laid back time, with lots of choices of things to do and see..........and on a beautiful island with gorgeous beaches!

Molly,

While you are in St.John you must spend a day on the water. We have a beautiful catamaran and do daysails and dinner cruises. A Dinner cruise is a great romantic evening. Check out the website www.sailvi.com.
