I am going to be at the STT Marriott Frenchman's Cove in early March. This is my first time in STT so I would like to hear from those who know STT well on what are their top 3 for,
1. Beaches for hanging out and snorkeling
2. Restaurants
3. Locations to visit.

Obviously those close to the Marriott would help, but I do plan on renting a car (assume that is a good idea).

I assume taking a day trip to STJ will be on the list, so if you have 1 day, what would everyone do at STJ.

To give a little background, this is mostly going to be a relaxing weekend for my wife and me. I like to be active, she likes to sit on the beach and read and relax. I would like to snorkel while there, so nice beaches where my wife can relax and I snorkel would be great. Neither of us are huge shoppers but like to check out the local area and walk around.

I was also interested in the snuba I see that is offered there. Any one have any comments on that.

Will the cruise ships impact activities? What days are the most active for cruises?

Thanks for the help.
Randy

Randy, you staying for a weekend only? That's not much time. But, you may consider going to Crown Bay Marina, taking the Water Island ferry and hang at Honeymoon Beach on Water Island for the day. You can snorkel to your hearts content. Your wife can hang on the beach. Heidi Honeymoon Grill sells great lunch. There are palapas, picnic tables, coconut trees so you can "chase some shade" if you need.

Sign up at Bolongo for either a day sail or their happy hour sail. Both are fantastic on their smooth catamaran that they really sail so it is very quiet and relaxing. If you do the day sail they stop at St John's for excellent snorkeling and serve you lunch. They will point out all of the sights and show you a great time. Mim's nearby is a nice place where you can dine with a fantastic view.

restaurants!!!

there are so many great ones from which to choose. this does not put down any others, but i recommend:

thirteen on the north side, it's eclectic fusion with down-home flava: 774-6800 (no web site that i know of. word of mouth is doing it 4 them)
fungi's on the beach, east end, reggae, funky, delish: 775-4142 - http://www.agaveterrace.com/fg1.html
tavern on the waterfront, downtown, continental delight, reasonable prices: 776-4328 http://www.tavernonthewaterfront.com/

Right now the busiest cruise ship day is usually Tue. That's when the Oasis of the Seas and other ships come in. I think that will be the case when you arrive in March.

You might want to consider Magens Bay, because they have a fairly strenuous (though pretty short!), uphill hiking trail that you can do while your wife relaxes on the beach. It also has facilities so you can eat, drink, etc. You'll have to pay a fee ($4) upon entry. Not known for snorkeling. Known for its calm waters.

Lindbergh Bay/Emerald Beach has kayaks you can rent, and they were talking one time about letting people kayak to Water Island. Several restaurants/bars on this beach. You may see some turtles if you snorkel, but probably not too many fish.

What type of food do you like to eat?

1. beaches for "hanging out" - Coki - fun with really good drinks from the guy to the far left if you are looking away from the water! - Magens for the beauty - lots to do or not do! -Saphire is a fun snorkel & conch fritters on the beach from the waiter are delish!
2. Restaurants - Saturdays - Hooters All U can eat shrimp for $12.99 is good. Tuesday or Saturday All u can eat Crab legs are yummy at Iggy's at Bolongo Bay! Hook Line and Sinker (Frenchtown) for great Yellowtail Snapper. Bumpas downtown for a grilled peanutbutter banana and honey sandwich...trust me it's to die for! Table 13 a little pricey but pretty much everything is VERY GOOD! Udder Delight leaving Magen's Bay for spiked milk shakes and the pizza at Magen's is great too!
3. Shop downtown on the Square to support the local community, its fun...especially if you find the lady on the right side who sings everything to you! Take time to just drive around and get lost...you'll find cool places! Drakes Seat sto pfor pictures. Duffy's is a fun party bar...be careful if you think you are going to just stop for one...and try the Shark Tank it goes down smooth!

St. John is a must do. Go early in the morning and head for Coral Bay - pick a hiking trail that you can both agree on, stop at Skinny Leg's for lunch, pet the donkeys, then head to Woody's for Happy Hour - $1 coors lights and lots of fun to be had. OR hang out at Trunk Bay, you will love the snorkeling and your wife the scenenry then head to St. John Spice for some great finds, then head to Woody's!

Relax, have fun and get in the island groove mon!

My top three restaurants at the moment:
The Cellar- great ambiance, wine list, service, small plates and a wonderful inventive chef.
Robert's- consistently great food, wonderful piano bar, portion choices, she-crab soup.
Cariga's- cheap and tasty with a boatyard ambiance.

These are all on the east end, 'cause I don't like driving at night!;) I have heard wonderful things about 13, Northside Bistro and Old Stone Farmhouse, but I need a driver!

Okay, Romano's just went to the top of my list. I did not know that service could be like that on St Thomas. Of course, it comes with a price, and some folks feel that the tables are too crowded. To me, it was very much like being in Italy. Yum, with garlic on top.
