Is it really as casual as I'm told on St. John? T-shirts and shorts and jeans?

It is that casual. In fact, I don't take any long pants. There are a few restaurants that probably wouldn't seat me dressed like that, but I don't go to those restaurants.

Hello Marsha,

Yes fairly casual. Day time you would want shorts or capris and a tank top or t-shirt and sandals. For hiking, shorts and a t-shirt and sneakers. For night-time, a casual sundress, nice shorts and a blouse, jeans and a t-shirt or blouse would do for bars and casual restaurants and dress pants/skirt and dress shirt or a dress for expensive/more formal restaurants. So bring beach wear and day time casual summer cloths, jeans or whatever you are comfortable in for bar hopping if you intend on doing that and a few nice but casual evening outfits for going to more formal resturants.

Yolando the temps at night are mid-high 70's. If you mean treking in the hills as in hiking - no long pants you will by soooo hot - wear shorts. The trails are clear so its not necessary to wear pants as protection from trees, brush.

But you might want to wear a light pair of pants just for the bugs if you are out trekking at night.

Help! Does anyone know of reasonably priced grocery stores around the Christianstead/Sugar Beach area? Is the Kmart in this vicinity? Also, I am looking for a Catholic church nearby. Thanks.

Yolanda,
I agree 100% with Patrick about pants perhaps being necessary to protect against bugs. The hike down to the petroglyphs (a must see and do!) is riddled with mosquitos--day or night. Last time I went I was wearing shorts and ample repellant spray and still ended up with a bite every square inch. But with a loose light pair of breathable pants, you should be fine.

Shar,

Ii think the Pueblo is your best bet for that area - I think it's even walking distance (in daylight) from Sugar Beach. There is a Catholic Church on King Street (Rte 75) on the right as you enter downtown Christiansted from the west.

Actually, that's the Anglican Church. The Catholic Church is on Company Street as you head out of Christiansted.

Thanks Dominic - I knew it was the only large church on the route, just had them reversed!
